Fulton
Flynn
Rutherford/Carl Chops
Latham
Brownlie
Munro
Ronchi
NcCullum (argh, Jeeeeeeeets)
B Martin
Gillespie
Mitch/Wagner
To make it as trial-like as possible would prefer something like:

Fulton
Flynn
Rutherford/Carlchops
Taylor
Munro
Ronchi
B. Martin
Wagner
Gillespie
Jeets
Mitch M

Don't care that it's a long tail.

Brownlie doesn't need a game though Taylor does. N McCullum does not need to be included for reasons known to all reasonable test cricket followers.

grumble grumble grumble, knew I'd regret that and sure enough five minutes later...

Who else is better though? Dylan Cleaver doesn't seem to write as much any more. I like that stuff.co.nz has a lot of articles about domestic cricket however their opinion pieces don't tend to be as good.

SteveNZ has forgotten who his mates are, at CricketWeb, to become the best cricket writer in the country probs.

When do we name our squad for the test series? It's obviously unlikely, but if Ronchi scores a century or something, you never know.
The squad for that test, starting on March 6 also in Dunedin, is due to be named on February 20.
Hesson and Littlejohn with these early bird selection policies eh. Jeets completely out of contention for the first test you'd presume.

Also FFS guys we can't have 2 7s. McCullum moving to 5 means that with Taylor and Williamson at 3 and 4 that we'll have to get rid of one of Brownlie or Watling. Why can't people do the math?

Sure none of us wants a Nicol or some **** opening when Watling or Baz could make a better go of it anyday of the week but that isn't what will happen. They are all playing for the same lower middle order positions and one of Brownlie, Watling or Ronchi will have to miss out.

Hey hey, let's be clear that wasn't my team. I wouldn't select NcCullum or Wagner in a 20-strong squad.

Why can't people do the English word for maths? :p

Everyone knows Ronchi will miss out unless Hesson does a massive backflip. Which, given that Hesson's word has as much worth as a concrete parachute, would not be out of the question, except that McCullum would be disadvantaged in this case so it won't. Wouldn't put it past them to go back on the 'Watling will bat in the middle order' statement though. Will probably claim that they never said it, or that it was interpreted incorrectly, or that Ross Taylor had a gun at Hesson's back when he said that.

... sorry... post started normally but then went off into ranty territory.

Imagine if Butler were to have remarkable figures again in Wgtn btw, then we see Ellis back for the ODIs just because we made a rod for our own back during a home tour. Hesson's learnt very little from Taylor in Colombo obvs.

Good squad. Harsh on Aldridge maybe.
