***Official***Match #32 - New Zealand vs South Africa - November 1st - Pune (D/N)

NZ were enjoying the minnow bashing at the starting but now when they are playing with big team they are falling like pack of cards.

Not defending the poor performance but our boys must be drained from the aus game, neesham was in tears at the end of that match and boult nearly started crying there.... (hell i nearly did)

Anywho, so we won the toss here and elected to bowl first....if we don't make the semis or crash badly in the semi game against a top team again....we deserve it, that is a monumentally terrible call from our management to make this SA team bat first

lol and the injuries ay...ouff

Tom Latham: Not our best performance. We were put under massive pressure by QDK and Rassie. To be five down early was disappointing with the way it panned out. I don't think I'd bat first had there been another chance. It was a decent surface. If we'd restricted them to 330-340 it'd have been better. We weren't able to capitalise with bat either. Injuries are adversities, gotta see how they shape up. Small turnaround, so we gotta reflect now and move on to Bangalore.

This idiot still won't admit his blunder, on top of that he is saying 20 less runs would have made the difference in the end. What a leader! Good luck NZ with this guy as your leader.

Latham saying he wouldn't have changed his decision to bowl first if he had his time over again.

So it sounds like he will make the same stupid decision if we meet South Africa in the semi finals.

Great to hear.
Modern sportspeople innit - always back their decisions but say they executed poorly. I suspect they wouldn't do it again...

So if Pakistan were to score 300, they would need to restrict NZ to 215 to overtake them on NRR.

If NZ scored 250, Pakistan would need to chase them down in 35 overs.

NZ are still very much in the box seat.
It's not just that, Pakistan have the chance of boosting their NRR against England in their last game as well.
Likewise the NZ NRR could have an effect in their game against Sri Lanka.

Great to hear, why change a losing formula.
This is a bigger problem than the defeat itself today

Yeah the captains never admit that they stuffed up with their decision at the toss, it always comes down to them not executing their plans.

This is their first bad game of the tournament, NZ are a great side they will bounce back. I think they underestimated SA a bit. Don't really think they appreciated how good this SA pace attack is with their decision to bat first ..And of course we've clearly shown in this tournament that we are a nervous side batting second.

Absolute idiocy to win the toss and then immediately gift SA a massive advantage. Sheer foolishness.

Lack of South African rejuvenation of the NZ player pool from 2017-2023 is starting to make itself felt. You never want to see a cricket scene fall into a state that it's in some ways turning Scott Kuggeleijn into a talismanic figure on scorecards underneath the top tier.

‘Eight hours after the toss, as the beaten Black Caps shook hands with their South African conquerors in Pune, it still didn’t make any sense.

Why would you invite a team that has looked imperious batting first so far at the Cricket World Cup to do just that once more?

The Proteas were stunned by the Netherlands in one of the two matches where they had to chase. In the other, against Pakistan, they squeaked home with a single wicket in hand.’
