I wanted Vihari to replace Rahane as I know for a fact that Rahane can't bat for too long. He is a dasher and India already had enough dashers in Pant, Ashwin and Thakur + Tail.

By keeping Rahane, its one too many dashers in the lineup, hence the inevitable collapses!

I never said he was... I would choose Jansen over Olivier, and I would still play Mulder over Olivier.
I get why they were interested in Olivier given his form this season and his record in the series against Pakistan. If he'd played in the first test it may have been a different matter, but given Jansen's performance the better choice would have been to continue with the same bowling lineup and not weaken the batting by dropping Mulder.

Good day for SA. India are very much 80-100 runs short - it was good bowling but terrible batting. This is not anywhere close to a 223 wicket.

I think india go into test match thinking they need to play 5 bowlers just in case 1 breakdowns due to injury

Pretty much it can happen sadly.

Its one of the reasons I want to get Vihari into this team, he's a pretty decent bowling option, obviously not a front liner or as good as Stokes, but maybe on same level as Root? ...so could be trusted with a few overs.

Nortje injured, meant to be Olivier's chance he becomes unavailable so they pick Jansen.. he takes his opportunity and now they won't stick with it but vacillate and drop Mulder instead.

Makes complete sense, Vihari is also handy with the ball, just in case one of our bowlers break down(which happens from time to time).

SA's day You can say that they are now in total control of the test looking at scoreboard. But India has got the big fish in Elgar early.

Pujara and Rahane are prime examples of how weak cricket has been in the last decade or so, stalwarts of the so called top team and they're piss poor, a far cry from guys like Sehwag, Laxman and Ganguly.

A reflection of India’s determination to wipe out test cricket.

not like SA is a good batting lineup though. Their scores have been mostly around the 200 mark. Wanderers last innings was due to a combination of Siraj injury leading to bad bowling by the others plus wet seam negating Ashwin.

Is Jadeja injured? Guess that’s why they’re playing Ashwin I suppose. I don’t think the team can consider Ashwin and Thakur as bowling all-rounders. With Pant not coping well, their batting is way too thin past #5, and #5 is likely in a career ending slump. I don’t think playing just 5 specialist batsman is tenable anymore. Made sense when at least some of the top/middle order was making a runs but that’s no longer the case.
