Where is the poster who worries every year this is finally the season they will go down:clapping:
Belatedly recognsing that the Community Shield is, in fact, a wonderful and vitally important trophy. Happy days.

Now worrying how many of the players will be poached over the next 3 weeks. Especially Wharton, who I gather was outstanding yesterday,

Congratulations mate. Your boys could end up fighting for champions league spots

My prediction would be:
Liverpool
City
Arsenal
Chelsea

Lot of people sleeping on City imo. They've got Rodri back and Reijnders is unbelievable. Pep will figure out something and they'll be much better than last season.

And during those 17 years, were Spurs ever favourites for the title?
No, wasn't the closest they got the 15/16 season? I will admit my memories of them weren't that precise, but seemingly whenever they had the chance to close the gap on Leicester they usually mucked it up. Edit: Thala gets their first with that

My point was more that a failure to win a title for a few years doesn't therefore make you favourite to win one. Liverpool must've been odds on by 2019 after their 30 year hiatus.

Agree. I didn't make any point about time since they last won it either.

My comment was in reference to Arsenal being second place 3 years in a row and a manager spending over £1bn on his squad. At some point there has to come an expectation of winning a major trophy.

Arsenal should have no regard for what other teams are doing at this point. This is their season and they should be winning it.

Yeah, they should be by now. If they don't this year, they won't be with Arteta in charge

Fair enough, I wasn't trying to dispute that. I didn't remember Spurs ever being favourites, more that their best chance was in that year retrospectively. I can't say I ever remember the gambling odds re Liverpool 2019 but City were always going to be there or thereabouts then. I would argue that they are a bit of an unknown this year in terms of how their adjustment goes. They were too slow in the middle of the park last year in terms of both the players they put out and how quickly they moved the ball, which was so overwhelmingly slower than what we had been used to them.

Yeah, and now there sems to be a doubt about when Rodri is returning too. I wouldn't be tempted by them, still Liverpool or Arsenal for me.
