Second Match: Namibia v Cricket Web 'A'
at United Ground, Windhoek

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Attacking batting and a couple of threatening spells from Nick Borcich ensured another comfortable eight-wicket win for Cricket Web 'A' to conclude the series in Namibia in fine fashion. The batsmen stood up despite early wobbles, leading the coach and people around the team to believe in a profitable tour of Southern Africa.

After choosing to bat, Dan Smith struggled with the early swing, and left most balls alone during his uninspiring five before nicking behind off Klazinga. Yet, van Zyl, who had been brought in to strengthen the seam attack, failed to provide the necessary zip from the other end, and Scott bashed four boundaries before he, too, nicked behind in Sarel Burger's first over.

Despite the early incisions, the Webheads continued to exploit wayward bowling and poor fielding, as Verwey failed to capitalise on the edge given by Kearsley while on seven. That was crucial; Kearsley ran away after lunch with a mixture of cuts and pulls, though he was an adequate foil to Garven, who raced away to a 100-ball ton before Kearsley had even reached fifty. Jasotharan took up the mantle, slashing his first ball over midwicket for a huge six, and their stand of 98, though brief, was the second-highest of the innings. Jasotharan added another thirty-odd runs in a half-hour, before Richards and Bennett batted out against the new ball and boosted the end-of-day total to a very respectable 489 for eight.

Gerrie Snyman worked some magic in the morning, sneaking through the gaps of Bennett and Thomas, but the damage had already been done. Facing up to 500 was impossible for Namibia, with Borcich striking three times in two furious spells to send Namibia reeling at 109 for five. Young opener Dawid Botha, however, had found his feet after a disappointing opening game, and reached fifty shortly after Borcich trapped Snyman lbw. Rapidly running out of partners, he tried to charge out after tea, only to become the third man to be trapped lbw by Borcich; despite 43 well-hit runs from wicket-keeper Verwey and quick bowler Matheus van Zyl, Namibia were bowled out for 267, with an hour remaining of the second day's play.

Following on, Namibia once again fell to Borcich's wiles, as Swanepoel dragged one on while Jan-Berrie Burger concluded a disappointing series with a huge edge behind to Jasotharan. Botha and Sarel Burger fought well on the third morning, adding 80 to their overnight partnership of 42, but after Thomas held a sharp catch off Richards' bowling there was only one way to the collapse. Borcich returned to complete a match nine-wicket-haul, while Bennett went wicketless and Fuller had to be content with the breakthrough wicket of Botha, as Cricket Web A were set 109 to win with a day and an evening to spare.

Smith and Arnold initially aimed to put it off inside the evening, but with Arnold missing a pull off van Zyl completely and getting himself lbw in the process, Scott went about the business a little calmer. He, too, eventually fell to van Zyl, but Smith calmly got the team home with Garven, as another eight-wicket win was secured.

BARNES OUT
A much better performance with the bat this time around, happy enough with my efforts personally but thrilled to see pretty much everyone else in the runs and Borc's smashing poles with consumate ease. Signs are much more positive for the clashes with the Saffers now.

EDIT: I got a wicket

Lions vs Cricket Web 'A'
at Sedgars Park, Potchefstroom

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

The Lions ensured the tourists will not go away from the tour undefeated, after they wrested out an excellent comeback victory with a magnificent fourth-innings performance to chase a mammoth 318. Despite batting first and gaining a lead, Cricket Web 'A' lost threat and direction during the final innings, allowing a vastly understrength Lions team to come out top of the four-day combat.

It had been a good start for the Lions, as Gerard de Bruin had unsettled the tourists with two wickets in four balls, and Sean Fuller padded up to Garnett Kruger to send the score to 47 for three. However, Jasotharan and Arnold counter-attacked in brutal fashion. Jasotharan in particular slashed at everything, and had reached 61 off 43 balls at lunch, 110 added in total by the partnership.

The game continued in the same vein after an elongated lunch break. Tyron Henderson briefly kept things quiet, bowling five dots and a no-ball to Arnold, but somehow they still managed to score 96 in 50 minutes, before Gerard de Bruin put in a blockhole yorker to Jasotharan, who placed his pad in front and was gone for 121, scored at a rate of eight an over.

The race to runs was only stemmed by another outbreak of rain, but Arnold and Cunningham continued to bash afterwards, notching up 38 tallies in 27 deliveries before Arnold fell short after a moment of indecision. Cunningham and Bennett rounded off with a 63-run eighth-wicket stand before fifth-change bowler Justin Ontong broke through with leg spin on an already worn wicket.

Despite rain breaks, the Lions had time to add another 82 runs to the tally on an already frantic day. Fuller was involved in both dismissals, holding a freak catch off Werner Coetsee before a good length ball cannoned into Alviro Petersen's off stump. It was the best ball he bowled all match; afterwards he sunk into the fifth-bowler role.

Jasotharan came up with another vital contribution on the second morning, holding a catch off a fiery Greg Thomas, but Vaughan van Jaarsveld built up a solid, chanceless innings through the morning session. At 45 and with the lunch break looming, he looked set to build a huge innings, when batting partner Snijman called for a suicidal run on the ball before lunch. It was a pivotal moment; apart from bashes from Harris and Tyron Henderson, and the stubborn 37 from Enoch Nkwe, who fell to a return catch to Collins just after tea, the Lions had little, and certainly couldn't match the first-innings total. It finished off an accurate spell for Collins, who had the fortune of meeting Harris' pad instead of bat, Snijman in the nineties, and Nkwe who needed runs batting with tail-ender de Bruin.

Leading by 75 and with Scott and Arnold well settled to push the advantage further, things went horribly wrong for the tourists. Incredibly, Blake Snijman's medium pace did the damage; he was brought on to soften the ball for Claude Henderson, but got enough swing to have Scott caught in the slips and Arnold lbw. Armstrong and Jasotharan then gave obliging catches, and by stumps Cricket Web 'A' were somewhat precariously placed at 129 for four.

Kearsley accelerated early on, then fell to a tumbling catch by Enoch Nkwe, and with Henderson finding bite on the wicket, it was a tricky proposition for the lower order to stay in. If only one had lasted more than 40 balls, the target might have been impenetrable; as it was, Fuller was last out on 72, lunging away to hit a blockhole ball from Kruger for a single but instead finding Coetsee's thankful hands. By then, Cunningham and Richards had stood in remarkable, but short, partnerships, and Cricket Web 'A' were all out for 242 by lunch.

Still, the main blame rests on the bowlers. Defending a solid 317, and getting the early breakthrough when Blake Snijman dragged on Cunningham, they handed the game away with loose, ineffective bowling against top-drawer batting. Even Alviro Petersen's dismissal just before tea, another Fuller gem in the field, could not stop the Lions - wicket-keeper Matthew Harris came in and guided his team to victory with authority, while Richards encountered a drought after Fuller had helped him dismiss Coetsee and Petersen, Bennett failed to threaten Harris, Cunningham offered too many four-balls, Collins came up with little threat, and Thomas strayed on leg. Harris could thus bring up victory in arrogant and impervious fashion on the final morning, striding forward, planting one leg firmly down, and swiping away at Thomas for a six held by the dog in the crowd.

Was a decent time for Fuller to learn how to bat again, but the last innings bowling was the undoing. Top first innings from Arnold, Jasotharan and Cunningham with the bat and Adam with the ball.
