Lets be serious for a second too. As much as they're the super hyped names, you still won't get Moises on an "A" trip, when he can't get a game for NSW. Smith wouldn't get a game either - maybe he could've if he were to play the rest of the season for NSW, but he ain't.

I know :( I was kinda thinking they could be included because of their names rather accomplishments thus far. Moises isn't playing enough state cricket at the moment, but one of the upsides to the departure of Steve and Phil for the WC is that Moey will get another run.

Blizzard needs to learn how to rotate the strike a little better to become a top quality player. He relies a little too much on boundaries at the moment.

I'd rather see Cullen & Cullen get a run on any development tour...I honestly reckon they're both as good or better than Casson, and younger, so we may as well develop them. And I dunno, McGain is just a tad too old for my liking.

For mine, I don't care in Test cricket how old the guy is. Lets be honest - right now, McGain is a better bowler than any of the younger spinners playing for their state. Surely it's better to pick McGain, because it makes it more likely that Australia will win the next match that they play than picking a Cullen, and it also gives our spinners more time to learn more about themselves and their bowling.

Spin bowling isn't really a "young man's game", there's plenty of time to find your way through it and expecting one of the Cullens to be ready now isn't right. If anything, the disappointment is that there aren't any spinners 28+ who are screaming for selection.

Fair point. Especially the 'spin bowling isn't really a young man's game' bit...But I just dunno...If McGain is really that good, how come he has never cracked a place in the Vics side for any length of time before this season?

Must admit that I'm pretty much picking Casson cause he's done pretty well in this game on the weekend.

I reckon McGain has to be selected, for reasons vic_orth said, I can see a Dan Cullen being selected, but yeah I made my squad from players who haven't played for Aus in Test or ODI.

Shane Warne and the Vic selectors thought Cam White was a bowler.

Also for the fact that spin bowling isn't a young mans game so he's only recently learned the art of spin bowling. :)

Lol, oh yeah, Cam White. I forget that he pretty much started as a bowler who was touted as a gun leggie and handy with the bat. Warne shouldn't have mattered too much though, especially since he was with the Aussie side nearly always.

Couple of factors.

First of all, Warne. Especially after he retired from ODIs, he's played a fair proportion for Victoria. Secondly, White when he first came into the side did do fairly decently with the ball, hence why his figures don't look as ghastly as what his bowling often does! As his bowling deteriorated, I think the selectors kept faith with it, when even White himself didn't have that much faith in it. Thirdly, the fact that Victoria's home ground at the time was the Junction Oval, which doesn't traditionally give anything to the spinners.

On McGain himself, he's bowled very well in Grade cricket over the past three seasons and probably could've been picked for Victoria during that time but hasn't. I think he was written off as being a good grade bowler but not good enough for FC cricket because he doesn't have a heap of "weapons", whereas what he does have is a lot of subtle variations. He got his chance last year, took it and has continued to bowl well since.

As much has his performances in FC Cricket have been poor, surely Heal deserves selection in the OD side of things?

Funky was younger, wasn't he?

I'm with Jack the Mac on this one, though. Best players picked first and if McGain is one of them, deserves a go. Haven't exactly got an epidemic of quality spinners around the place right now.
