So if Smith is fit for 2nd Test then Inglis could be dropped for the 2nd time in his 3 Test career

Meanwhile Green who is useless will just carry on like he's a superstar #3 batsman the selectors/coach think he is...

Could definitely happen but I'd rather Green be the one left out. Inglis has literally only had 2 bats here

The coach already stated they are committed to Green being the next long term #3 so Inglis is the only one they'll drop (unless Konstas).

The team would be so much stronger if Patterson or McSweeney batted 3. Hell I'd even rather see an out of form Labuschagne bat 3 over Green

Possibly tbh. If Green isn't bowling he doesn't deserve a place in the side, let alone batting 3. He's looked worse than Marnus if anything. Making runs against club standard county attacks wasn't enough. Needs to go back and make Shield runs

Shouldn't be Marnus at all that replaces him, but if he's the only other one in the squad might be the lesser of 2 evils

Green not being a test #3 doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a spot in the side. He averages something like 60 at 4 and 5 in FC cricket and from the bit of cricket we saw when he got to bat at 4 in test cricket he was fine.

Making him bat #3 after his only recent cricket had been at 5 and 6 vs div 2 county bowlers was silly. The player management of our top 3/4 has been shocking for a while. I think you have to stick with green at 3 for this series at this point, even if it's a dumb decision. If you want to try and turn middle order bars into top order players you've got to give them some level of consistency Making him bat 3 for two tests then dropping him after the way McSweeney was treated last summer would be terrible, given the fact Inglis is the player that will probably bat 3 and be shot into the sun after that because he struggles for two tests, just like green and McSweeney.

Correct, but he still doesn't deserve a spot in the side at this point in time as a specialist batsman.

Don't get me wrong, if I'm in charge I'm not dropping him now. It's too late and it'stoo reactive. He has to be stuck with at 3 for this series at least even if it looks unlikely to work at this point. But barring a big turn around I'm not convinced he's in the top 7 bats in the country right now regardless of position.

Webster, Head and Carey all look in significantly better touch and have 5 to 7 locked down, and Smith is 4, so where else does Green play? It's either top 3 or Head moves up the order

You're asking him to score Shield runs (ignoring that there's none at the moment and he missed the last season for his back operation) when he's the only up-and-coming batsman of recent years who has.

Exactly. He needs to prove he's back to where he was, because by eye test and results he's not in the best team IMO. Looks worse than Mitch Marsh did last summer

He's done about what he could have. I'm guessing you're suggesting guys doing far worse than him in whichever FC they're playing in deserve a go instead.

i think the question of whether green should be in the team is one that reasonable minds may differ on
but surely it's unequivocal that the moment was not right to throw him in to the team this way ie in the top three for the world test championship and then the wi in wi given his long layoff and known struggles with starting with hard hands and stuff right
