Nah. Jaggernauth sacked. Would be Sammy-Taylor-Powell-Edwards, if Taylor is fit. If not, it'll just be dire.

Hmmm...Reports Hayden going home but their keeping Hodge?? As a Vic I'm happy fro him but wouldn't Katich have meant less messing with the team order. Surely Hodge wouldn't open which means Hussey would go up the order. On the bright side if Hussey makes good then we might end up with...

Hayden (With Jacques to replace Hayden when he retires)
Hussey
Ponting
Clarke
Watson
Symonds
Haddin
Noffke
Lee
Johnson
Clark

Who needs a spinner anyway...(Not Richard...)

If Symonds and Watson are playing in the same team, Symonds should bat above Watson. This considering that Symonds is not a Test class allrounder (but looking a pretty effective batsman) and Watson is very much unproven. Also, with Watson in that team, four specialist seamers is a bit excessive, surely.

Watson has a much more sound batting technique, a far better F/C record and looks like a batsman. Symonds for all his success always looks like a sumo wrestler playing croquet when he bats.

4 specailist pace bowlers and Watson and Symonds is probably excessive but on the subcontinent without a specialist spinner it might give us the fire power to bowl out sides on a dust bowl or at least bowl back to back innings without leaving anyone nackered.

But if Katich is in squad then already then he'll get the gig of opening probably for the rest of the series. Leaving Hussey at 4, Clarke at 5 and Symonds at 6. Still like Noffke for Johnson. What a great pity White's bowling never took off, he'd have made a great test number 8 but I think even MacGill got him covered for them with the ball.

Pity we couldn't poach Vettori, he'd get to play in the number 1 test side and get a chance to win a 1 day world cup.

Watson is totally unproven at Test level. He should not slot into the numer 5 spot. Not when he's being picked as an allrounder, which he should be.

This is an XI in reference to this series or for the future?

If for the current series, Watson wouldn't be touring for the test at least i'd say but in the future him & Symonds in the same test side does look exciting. Personally i'd be afraid to move Hussey from # 4 now or the future regardless of the fact that he has experience in that role & the fact the we got solid middle order bats like Hodge/Katich/his bro to come in also. Given that Jaques/Rogers & Marsh as openers haven't totally convinced be yet that they can cary the mantle of solid openers that Australia have had over the last 15+ plus years.

In bowling Tait should be right up in the reckoning as back-ups to Lee/Clark along with Noffke/Johnson/Bollinger/Hilfenhaus.

The side I listed was a potential future XI after MacGill totally fails throughout this series and Watson has had a long enough run of full fitness to show he won't break down as soon as he's picked.

A six bowler team would mean you would only need 15 apiece per day, with Clarke chipping in the odd over we could maintain pressure on India's batting for days on end.

big blow that haydens out but aus should still have more than enough to win hopefully this means katich will have the rest of the series to show how good he is
