Yeah, it's a pity, because I like Smith as a player and a bloke - I thought his comments on the decision making process for Marsh were measured and fair - but he clearly lost his head for a while out there. It's not OK to just dig into the umpires when a close call goes against you. At the very least he should apologise to Walker if he hasn't already.
Well I think Smith is a bellend, but that's alright because it adds to the drama of the tour and frankly increases my enjoyment of it a lot.

Agree that he should apologise, the sort of things he said and the way he said them were definitely not in the spirit of cricket.

IIRC this was trialled in the ODI domestics here in Australia and really sucked.
What was trialled was the third umpire being able to straight up over-rule the umpire if the replay confirmed the umpire was wrong between deliveries, which is a bit different to what Bahnz has suggested.

The first problem was that if favoured batsmen so much. If a batsman got a rough one it'd always be over-turned by the next ball because of how long it'd take for them to get off the field compared to the relatively short time it'd take if the batsman had been let off.

The second problem was the horribly inconsistent discretion used to determine a 'conclusively wrong' decision just by looking at the first TV replay.

And the third problem was the dire gamesmanship that manifested itself with players deliberately wasting time so the replay would come up in time.

It was really quite horrible. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it was thought through better and they could speed up the more high-tech elements like HawkEye so they were actually usable in that sort of timeframe, but it was awful.

Smith's a dickhead but he's a boring dickhead. Just wahhhs and whines. Isn't entertaining in blowing up with cool sledging contests or aggressive battles. Doesn't have hilariously funny pressers KP or Kohli style. Doesn't do funny dumb **** like Watson. He's just an ugly ****ing wanker.

Most overrated bloke on CW. Its a blight on this forum that this guy was ever rated and had some movement about how nice and funny he is. He's just ****.

it just flows better when it's called immediately, or the discussion whether to review it happens immediately, and this type of system doesn't allow for that. you get people standing their ground or bowlers halfway back to their mark and suddenly it's reviewed and it's just weird.

The Aussies can't help themselves when Grant Elliott is at the crease. Don't know why, but they sledge him like a bastard. Doesn't seem to bother him much.

Mitchell Marsh's dismissal was 'handled pretty poorly' - Steven Smith | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo
"The right decision was made - he was out, there's no doubt about that. But if I get hit on the pad next time and it's missing leg, do I stand there and wait until it shows that up on the big screen?"
What's he really moaning about?

Turning out to be a mini Ponting without half the class the original had.

I want to make an XI of players who've failed after you tried to build them up though.

"PEWS Fail XI" seems apt.

How about players he predicted not to get runs who did?

Get Manish Pandey in there... Shame he didn't get his ton though

Just like to take a moment to appreciate Baz as an ODI player and captain. Statistically, his 35-21 win:loss record makes him our greatest ever captain (take that Hurricane!). Important to remember that we were ranked 9th in the world when he took over. Of course McCullum can't take all the credit for the turnaround (just as Ross shouldn't cop the blame for the state of affairs before the changeover). But there's no doubt that he galvanised the team and instilled them with a confidence that has been sadly lacking from NZ cricket since the retirement of Hadlee.

And as a batsman he's been just ridiculous, especially since moving up the order to open last year. He's averaging 33 at a strike rate of 155(!). Truly a once in a lifetime LO cricketer and supporting NZ won't be the same (for better and worse) without him.
Genuinely thought it'd be better than that. NZ have been playing a lot of home ODI series in the last couple of years and winning almost all of them convincingly, plus the World Cup where they went 8-1.

McCullum captained quite a few one-off odi's during Vettori's tenure. I think his record since taking over the job in 2013 is something like 24-8
