*Official* Afghanistan in Bangladesh 2019

Y no Afghanistan flag
Honestly Rahmats performance was exactly what I wanted. Called his maiden ton (y no afghan flag) and then gets out literally next ball which was ideal for NHS purposes.

Shakib's back to captaining and yet again criminally underbowls marmadoola. FFS he just got a wicket in his only over.

Has Mosaddek been picked to bat #8 and not really bowl, like the 11th bloke who can't really play that you manage to ring in last minute for your club side?

Yep. I was actually surprised he didn't bowl more, or at least be the third off spinner rather than the fourth. Mahmudullah bowling ahead of him surprised me a lot given it doesn't happen in ODIs, and if anything the way Mahmudullah bowls these days is more "specialist ODI bowler" than Moses.

I always used to marvel at the audacity of Bangladesh regularly having a specialist bat at 7 (of course helped by the likes of Shakib and at least 1 other ok spinner batting up the order plus Mushfiqur tending to bat higher), but this is really pushing the spinning all-rounder/deep batting meme to the next level

It's happened a few times before. Mahmudullah himself batted eight eighteen times (for an average of 40, a ton and four fifties - so it even kinda worked) and after getting through a fair bit of bowling in his first series against the West Indies progressively bowled less and less to the point where he a batsman who occasionally bowled there towards the end of his #8 reign.

Nasir Hossain and Naeem Islam also had the role a few times. Naeem spent almost half his Test career batting 8-9 and took one Test wicket @ 301 to go with his FC bowling average of 48. He wasn't getting picked based on the strength of his bowling.

Shuvagata Hom kind of qualifies too. Only kind of because he tended to bowl a bit more in the role but he was picked primarily on batting - he's never been amongst the top five offies in Bangladesh - and still batted 8.

Zimbabwe have done it recently with Malcolm Waller too.

This takes me back....I remember years ago discussing with you (probably you at least lol) how Mahmudullah visually looked the better bowler compared to Naeem but Naeem was getting more bowling. That must have been in ODIs though where Naeem was a little more effective.

Ironically Mahmudullah has changed his action a bit to be more like Naeem (hacky and side-arm) and now bowls in Tests ahead of Mosaddek who looks more like Mahmudullah used to (ie. flat but over the top with proper overspin).

Bangladesh captains hate pretty off spin, obvs.

I mean, I've seen a fair bit of Mosaddek's bowling and it's still pretty filthy tbh.

Looks like a case of a guy who's really a specialist batsman just fitting into the role that's available?

Not Terrible
You aren't allowed to play for Bangladesh unless you can between between 1-8 and either bowl some overs or keep.
