Good toss to lose. Bit more pace and bounce and should help shot making. Nothing in the air and off the deck. Should turn out a good batting deck after the first hour.

Can't wait to watch Devon bat on this deck. Hopefully big runs coming up for Devon, tailor made for him. Don't want him batting anytime soon though.

Great deck to get into some good batting form for Young and Latham.

Although Henry does deserve (finally) a spot in the attack after his home performances and because it's the Duke, still feels pretty rotten for Wagner. Perhaps down on pace but also does a reasonable Boult impersonation nowadays. Possibly if we'd won the first test one of Southee/Boult/Jamieson might have 'had a niggle' and Wagner played.
Wagner was still pretty important last year during the 2 tests vs England and the WTC final. Leaving out both him and Ajaz makes the attack look pretty samey. Good challenge for the likes of KJ and Henry nevertheless to shoulder responsibility with the older ball.

Very disappointed Ajaz missed out yet again. Looks like a good deck for spin bowling. Who'd want to be a spinner in New Zealand?

Happy for Bracewell, perfect deck to debut as a late middle order batsman. Suits him all right if he has to come in and smash few. He can bat all right but not expecting anything with the ball but if he keeps it tight enough I'll take that. In a way a very lucky player and 90s like selection but he's created his own luck.

Yeah Wagner and Ajaz our two points of difference (and Ferguson cos I couldn't write this post without mentioning him). We're all-in on new-ball wickets.

Macewell has played 96 1st class matches before making a test debut. Is that a record for a NZ player? Someone like Dipak Patel who played quite a bit of county cricket might've played more.
Conway might be very close to beating that, he's currently 118 first class matches with 8 tests, and I can't recall him playing much Plunket Shield since he made the test team.

Dipak played over 250 matches before his debut, that'll never be beaten by another NZ player.
Guessing Roger Twose must have played a number of games too in England and NZ before his test debut in 1995. From memory Andrew Jones and Mark Richardson debuted in their late 20s so must be up there on the list. More recently Luke Ronchi as well?
