ODI Wicket Keeper Poll: Discussion

I think I will vote for Dravid next round. Averaged 44 as a keeper.
I thought about him earlier but the issue isn't his batting, he was such a nothing keeper. I'm not convinced he ever should have been given the role but he did allow India to play a specialist batsman at 7 around 2003 and they had a decent run

Against my better judgement I find myself voting for Bairstow and Klaasen. Both have had more ODIs as specialist batsmen than keepers, but I can't ignore their averages/SRs. Seems a bit harsh on more specialist keepers like Haddin, Taylor and Stewart.

I'm surprised by the lack of votes for

Jeff Dujon av 23, s/r 67.5
Rod Marsh av 20, s/r 80
Ian Smith av 17.3, s/r 99.5
Romesh Kaluwitharana av 22, s/r 77

I think voters have looked at stats rather than impact and performance
It's exactly what I expected to happen. Basically rank players who kept based almost entirely on their batting with minor consideration of their keeping skills taken into account

I can see the argument, but I won't really take Marsh ahead of Carey in an ODI team.

Looking at the 8 players who received votes yet missed out (Alec Stewart, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Safraz Ahmed, Litton Das, Moin Khan, Ian Smith, Moin Khan, Tatenda Taibu and Ian Heal) plus a couple more mentioned by Fuller Pilch (Jeff Dujon, Rod Marsh) we could possibly have soldiered on to a list of 30. That's not to mention keeper/batsmen such as Geraint Jones. Matthew Wade, Luke Ronchi, Adama Parore, Tom Latham, Deryck Murray, Ridley Jacobs, Rashid Latif, Kamran Akmal, Syed Kirmani, Niroshan Dickwella and Mohammad Shahzad (and 11 other names I didn't list here).
