New Zealand Vs Australia......

I've a;ready tipped NZL in another thread - mainly because AUS can be slow starters in a Tourney & could be vulnerable with it basically being sudden death format - hence their record of not having won this format as of yet.........

my main concern atm is the NZL bowling attack - Tuffey is still not right, and Mills did not play v USA & I'm expecting NZL to go with the same team unless they have injuries.............

I don't think the New Zealand bowling attack can contain the Australians. I still believe our biggest challenge comes from Pakistan.

Australia comfortably for me.

so that will improve india chance of winning the cup if they can reach the finals
LMAO if we beat Australia.. then there would be no stopping us going on to winning the tournament.. i think India should be worrying rather..

Should be the best match of the tornament, cant believe that both are in the same pool. Winner of this match should win the whole thing.

Im tipping Australia ofcourse :)

the quality and depth of the batting should get past any NZ score.

though if anyone is gonan spring a surprise, its those damned kiwi's :p

With the current form of the Indian team, I am not even gonna think of anything beyond the India-Pak clash on the 19th.If India gets past that, then I will come back to this thread and become the most jingoistic Indian fan of the forum :drunk: :drunk:

How so seeing as they face one heck of a struggle just to make the semis?

The thing that worries me a bit is NZ haven't played a brilliant OD side for quite some time, and might be set for a rude awakening.

Pakistan and SA were good on paper, but you only need to look at SA's recent form and the way Shoaib was messing around on jetskis to wonder how challenging they actually were. Then on to the West Indies and England, where NZ were only threatened by perhaps the only world-class bowler they faced (Harmison).

This has still given the NZ team a lot of confidence, so win or lose I'm really just hoping for a performance that isn't suddenly tentative. I'd hate to see a showing that takes us right back to square one.

I think it will come down to our bowlers. They're going to have to be extremely disciplined & the fielders are going to have to take all the half-chances.

I think if we bat second, we can chase whatever Australia put on the board.
Batting first in the morning might be a different story for our batsmen though...

Also, if Bracewell's "Mills will be suited to taking on Australia" comes true he's officially a OD cricket genius!

Its most likely that Butler will replace Tuffey...for better or for worse.

Ah yes, Butler.

"Butts looks strong and he's got an ego. He's always looking over his shoulder at the speedball radar. That's good." - Bracewell two months ago.

Thinking about it, I'm not actually sure how a 'Butler v. Aussies' scenario would pan out.

In fairness he may actually lift his game for it, although I'm reminded of an over in the State Shield where Cairns brutally smashed him. Butler didn't even care I don't think - he just wanted to see a stump or a head flying. ;)

if we had bond back i would be FAR more confident...

Also someone said earlier in the back new zealand has had a bad run at these tournys.. wtf didnt we win the last champions trophy ?

no we didn't...Sri Lanka & India shared it.

NZ will be right in the match if they can restrict Australia to a score below 250..I think we've got a good enough batting lineup to reach that kind of score.

A tough ask for NZ, but if their bowlers can deliver on the day still a good possibility. I would put it at 55/45 in favour of Australia. NZ should play Tuffey, Oram, and Harris (Vettori unlikely trouble the Aussies) plus Butler or Mills.
Aussies likely to play Gillespie, Kaspar and McGrath with Hogg/Symonds.
