New Zealand 30 man squad

U19 Vice-Captain
Dissapointed Ryder and Taylor arent there .......But, on the plus side, a new face in Gillespie.

My starting 11

Vincent
Astle
Fleming
Fulton
Marshall
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Franklin
Gillespie
Bond

A new bowler gives us the chance to replace Mills, who does alright, but is a pedestrian medium pacer.......Why Franklin?????. over Mills???.. simply more potential, both arent world beaters and probably never will be but Franklin seems to bowl the odd unplayable delivery to get good batsmen out, clean bowling Jaques Kallis in SA recently and such, whereas Mills seems to wait for the batsman to make a mistake...or waiting for the pitch to help him. Think Marshall is lucky to be there..

You could play Patel in place of Franklin on a turning wicket, but otherwise I wouldnt change it much.

hate to moan about a dead point but taylor bowls a bit of spin which might have been handy in Indian conditions and at the world cup....Mr Bracewell is a strange fellow.

I'm a big fan of Mills due to his form over the last couple of seasons. Im not basing this on any figures but I just think hes gained alot more confidence in his own bowling as a result of having to function as a key bowler in Bond's absence.

Im Glad to see that they're lining up Taylor to replace Styris. IMO the world cup is what matters this season and any chance to give the someone like Taylor more high class international experience, such as the Champions Trophy, should be seized.

My Starting 11

NZ starting 11 should be

1. Lou Vincent
2. Nathan Astle
3. Stephen Fleming
4. Hamish Marshall
5. Scott Styris
6. Jacob Oram
7. Brendon McCullum
8. Daniel Vettori
9. James Franklin
10. Shane Bond
11. Mark Gillespie

All the Best BLACKCAPS!

Astle is certainly not guaranteed of a place right now, his form for Lancashire has been appalling to say the least. I wouldn't be surprised if Fleming opened with Vincent and they played Fulton & Marshall at #3 and #4.
If Styris is injured, then that might just save Astle because his bowling will take more importance.

State Vice-Captain
1. Lou Vincent
2. Stephen Fleming
3. Peter Fulton
4. Hamish Marshall
5. Scott Styris/Nathan Astle
6. Jacob Oram
7. Brendon McCullum
8. Daniel Vettori
9. Kylie Mills
10. Shane Bond
11. Mark Gillespie

IMO Astle/Styris need to play for one spot.

That's a pretty tough ODI side if you ask me. There is still a bit of unknown about Gillespie but from what i've seen he's a pretty quick, aggressive bowler and he could be a great opening partner for Bond. With Mills and Oram as handy medium fast bowlers to back up, Styris and then Vettori...we have the foundation of a good ODI side right now. Plus we can bat pretty much all the way to #11 considering Gillespie and Bond can put on 20 odd quick-fire runs.

NZ - fires till XI

Hi,

NZ has a good one day side. They can bat till the last batsman. but i expect Stryis to be back and i put money on him. He is my trump card.

Oram will be handy. He contributes with the bat. But we need good opening partnership. Opening Partnership is what NZ should have. Vincent and Fleming should bat well against Ntini, Nel and Plollock to beat them.

Cheers,

All the best for BLACKCAPS

Any word on Styris' injury????????. I hope it doesnt affect his career cause we need all the players we can get, but if he couldnt make it to the champions trophy then Taylor or Ryder might get a go, and if they were to do well..then they might get ibto the world cup squad............Im not a great fan of Styris. Think he is entirely overated....one of those bit part players. I think Taylor or Ryder would be a great improvement....So I hope styris' injury lasts just long enough to miss the champions trophy....poor thing to say I know but....ah well...

I don't think Oram should bat higher than McCullum. He's a handy allrounder and a good one day bowler, but his batting in ODIs has been poor at best. I know it has potential so I'd leave him in the side as an allrounder, but I think McCullum should be at 6 and Oram 7.

1. Stephen Fleming
2. Lou Vincent
3. Hamish Marshall
4. Scott Styris
5. Peter Fulton
6. Brendon McCullum
7. Jacob Oram
8. Daniel Vettori
9. Kyle Mills
10. Shane Bond
11. Mark Gillespie

New Zealands squad looking pretty good at the moment and we might enter a tournament without large numbers of injuries for once (bar Styris). I'm not sure if the BlackCaps are consistent enough to make their way through a knockout tournament because we generally do not win every single game we play.

Astle shouldn't bat lower than three IMO. He's scored a lot since his recall to the ODI side and finally managed a century at 3 (his first in a non-opening position). Having him down at 5 or 6 would be a waste, much like if Australia chose to bat Gilchrist at 6, ditto England with Pietersen or Bell.

Bell maybe, but for me Pietersen is better off coming in down the order so that there's a chance he's around in the last 10 overs.

Yeah? I think of him more of in the Ponting role rather than that of Symonds or Hussey...although he'd probably be great partnering with Collingwood to push singles about and then launch.

Problem with Pietersen is his big strength is when he gets in and plays his shots - I don't think he'll ever bat through the innings to be honest, so it's best to have his power when the side most needs it.

yeah thats true enough. Definitely not a Tendulkar style of player in that sense.

Is this the largest contingent of NZ players to play in England domestic cricket ever? It seems like it.

Natman20

It was great that so many players could get some experience in County cricket and get some form behind them which is great for the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. Next year its going down to 1 international player per team isnt it? so im guessing less next year.
