mundane sightings of high profile non cricket sportspeople

Former All Black and current sort-of billionaire Ali Williams on the ferry back from Waiheke on Saturday.

His group, consisting of the semi-famous and entrepreneurial (including his wealthy wife), ended up seated next to my group, consisting of extremely drunk idiots trying (with quite a lot of success tbh) to involve the ferry passengers in singalongs.

At one point Ali loudly suggested we "sing some NWA" and I let out an impromptu "**** the Police comin straight from the underground" which was a risky ploy but actually received with raucous laughter.

None of the above should be taken as any sort of endorsement of the Mowbray/Williams alliance, who I am inclined to think are not good people. There's no doubt though that he's the sort of charismatic man who it's fun to meet drunk for half an hour.

What's he up to now, apart from being on Featherston St.? Was an absolute king ten years ago and then just dropped off completely.

He was in a suit and dress shirt (no tie). Can't find anything to suggest what he's doing for work but he's an advisor to a club rugby team here - whatever that involves.

On a related but much less great note, one of Nonu’s predecessors at 12 for the ABs - Pita Alatini, today and semi-regularly in the elevators in my apartment building.

I think we need a separate thread for mundane sightings of ABs, which I guess will be more common as NZ is a small country.

To help build the case for the sub-forum:

Former ABs hooker Dane Coles is at the table next to me right now in the Auckland domestic Air NZ lounge.

Continue the push for the sub-forum:
- former Highlanders and All Blacks 10 Lima Sopoaga on a rainy Thursday morning in the Wellington CBD, wearing a Warriors top.
