List down your top 10 test all rounders in international cricket history. I may miss a few names pre 1970 but here is my list:-

1. Garfield Sobers
2. Imran Khan
3. Keith Miller
4. Ian Botham
5. Kapil Dev
6. Shaun Pollock
7. Ravindra Jadeja
8. Tony Greig
9. Ben Stokes
10. Chris Cairns
@Line and Length ran a poll about 6 months ago in the main section. I've just posted it in to update the thread if you are interested.

I’m not entirely convinced Pollock is a better all rounder than Jadeja?
That said Jadeja has also had a bit of an Imran-like trajectory, and his bowling especially in the last 2-3 years or so has really declined (although still manages just fine at home, but even then it’s visible to see).

Does anyone rate Marshall as an AR? His batting ave is disappointing but his side never really needed him to make runs. He always looked a pretty good bat.

Yes, his job was to make the old ball new and got the worst overs as ball was ageing.
Yes, he did that job very well.

Many fans forget the huge huge luxury Kallis provided to SA by,

1) ATG level output as batsman
2) Bowling 20 overs per test and doing the role of 5th bowler perfectly for so long that he bowled more overs than IK, Steyn, Lillee etc in his test career.
3) Being a gun fielder

There was no this phase or that phase for him. He did it for 160 plus tests. That's massive.

I think at least a defining factor for some people for bowling AR’s would be making a ton. I think there could be factors that affect it but I think that might generally be a starting point.

ofc I could be wrong.

And to add to Kallis's credentials, he was a seam bowler with decent pace. That takes a lot more out of a player than other forms of bowling.

That's not bad really. Perhaps at the fc level? After all a player picked for their bowling in tests might never have the opportunity to score a hundred. Whereas he has a better chance of showing he has that skill in fc cricket. I'm rating him as an AR as I always assumed when watching him play.

Pollock is far better bowler, even if Jadeja was better in batting the difference in secondary discipline doesn’t impact that much.

Does anyone have Hammond in their top 10, doubt in switching between Hammond and Jadeja
If I feel like counting Hammond as an AR, then yes. I'd have him around 6th, maybe 5th. I don't really think of him as an AR, but the cutoff is arbitrary, and his bowling is definitely a factor in why I have him so high.

One person who deserves a mention is Trevor Goddard. Don Bradman said “He can be depended put up a sterling performance over a whole series”

41 Tests. 2516 runs @ 34.47.
123 wickets @ 26.23.
Best economy rate in history of cricket(50+ wkts)
I'm also surprised by how little love he gets.

On top of what you said, opening bat. Better batting and bowling away averages than Imran and Miller. Long career.

He is surely better than a number of the modern ARs making these lists?

No he wasn't an AR but he could back a bit.He got a 50 vs England playing with a broken arm.

If Hammond gets in then Frank Worrell should be close. A 50 averaging bat, who regularly opened the bowling and a very solid away bowling record in Aus and England.
