Bothams away bowling average is just under 30, whilst Jadejas is 37. That's a pretty big away bowling gulf
and jadeja’s away batting average difference is

and Jadeja is a much better bowler at home (and bat too)

Jadeja is a much better player and home and at least equivalent away from home

a more serious answer is I am looking forward to India’s next tour of NZ more than anything else they would do
2026/27. Due to the tightness of the summer schedule, it's only meant to be two tests atm. A massive shame, both for cricket and NZC's finances.

Bothams runs per innings away (31) is almost the same as Jadejas (32) so the batting output away isn't as big a gulf as you think. The away bowling gulf however is. Botham was the better all rounder away from home

Home batting their batting output is also roughly equal (Botham slightly ahead)

Batting wise, their output is equal. Jadeja has the higher average, Botham more hundreds. Bowling, Jadeja is better, but Botham was by no means poor at home.

I know and also frustrated on a personal level. One of my best friends was heavily involved in the NZC setup and moved back after 30 years so we are planning on seeing the tests together so was hoping for a lot more than two. Plus the cricket

haven’t we established that average is a better metric than rpi.

look I’m struggling with this too, because Botham is such a giant of my childhood and Jadeja is well… Jadeja but the numbers have begun to overwhelm me

A seven point difference in away bowling average matters way more than batting average once you take away the NO boost Jadeja has.

If Botham batted no.7/8 he would have a much higher average as well. But he batted higher in the order simply because he was better.

Jadeja wasn't a top six quality bat overall. Botham was.

Botham was a Frontline bowler away from home, Jadeja was a support bowlers away from home.

Botham easily > Jadeja.

Botham is simply a superior bowler to Jadeja. You switch Jadejas home country to somewhere in SENA and he is taking less than 3WPM in his career at a much higher average.

Botham would have around his figures regardless of where he has a home career.

True, but I in general feel impact players in general comes with the caveat of consistency. I don't specifically like that.
I mean yeah as I said, this is specific to ar’s. Otherwise I prefer consistency. But generally I’d consider if I’m selecting an allrounder (based on their allround ability) its for the potential impact.

Fair. But if the argument is about who the better top order batsman is, I would prefer the more consistent one.

and you can say the same about batting. Jadeja is selected for batting alone anywhere in the world. Botham is selected nowhere in the world.
