Both did a pretty thankless job for their sides. Wagner had more pace support.

The quality longevity (averaging <35, which is pretty generous) of both players isn't too dissimilar - Kapil 10 years to Wagner's 7 - and they share a similar number of great years too. Kapil loved a blowout year otherwise he could have done a Walsh/Anderson.

Wagner outperforms Kapil in expected average difference though. Kapil performed almost exactly to the expectation of a pace bowler who debuted 16 October 1978 and retired on the 23rd of March 94. Wagner exceeded expectations despite similar being expected of him in his time.

Genuine swing bowler who could hoop it both ways, & who our opposition feared more than any of the others when there was swing in the air. Admittedly wasn't much of a threat on flat-decks in Australia, but any swing around he was a danger-man.

Yeah agreed. Kapil deserves credit for longevity though even though he wasn’t as good as Doull.
