Funnily enough, I consider Ambrose the complete opposite bowler to Steyn.

Steyns action is skidding the ball through the crease while Ambrose delivers it from a big height.

Steyn took wickets at record pace but was very expensive. Ambrose took them cheaply but relatively slowly.

Ambrose rocked Aus and England where Steyn often got stick while Steyn rocked SC where Ambrose didn't do much.

Steyn’s average against Australia may not top the charts but his strike rate of 46 and 4.6 wickets per match is as good as any great in history.

He was the ultimate match winner and his twin five-wicket hauls in a single Test ended Australia’s fifteen-year dominance in a home series

Sure I didn't say he failed in Aus and Eng. Even in England he has two matchwinning spells.

Btw you have just highlighted something important. This CW is too wedded to low averages as the main indication of bowler success than wickets and wicket taking rates.

If the sample size is low, all that matter is winning games or serieses for your team, or giving that level of performances, rest is all hogwash
