a unique thread I know I know , the Great all rounder Ken Barrington who averaged 58 with the bat in international but 32 with bowl in 1st class vs Jacques Kallis

Barrington was better batsman even at Kallis' game.
Absolutely killed spin, while brought up on pitches favored seam and swing.
Kallis struggled against Murali and Warne. And for unknown reason in England.

Yay Kallis wins something!*

* arguably disputed by not outs and selfishness to inflate batting average

Not 13 years, apparently.
It's not 13 though, is it? He had a 10 year career in effect. He was dropped in between for a long time. Also, 13 years is about the point after which the top guys see their average decline. Ponting and Dravid were still averaging high 50s so it's not exactly fair to compare them to a guy who played almost exclusively in his physical prime. Or Kallis for that matter.

I hope everyone takes note that a ~10 year period averaging 60 shouldn’t be used in any future ATG comparisons.

Barrington didn't become a regular in the team till he was 29 when he reinvented himself to basically go from a strokemaker to basically English Waugh/Dravid and he played till nearly 38 and was averaging 60 after his 35th birthday to the end of his career , even in 68 he didn't do too badly and he was never going to be able to play past 1969 due to the life threatning heart attack.

A fair point that it wasn’t really thirteen years. Matthew Hayden has a similar caveat. He played basically 95% of his career 2000-2008

Ken Barrington's averages are really weird: 32.81 in the Minor Counties/Second XI Championship, 36.92 for the British Army, 39.87 in the County Championship, 45.63 in first-class cricket, 58.67 in Tests, 63.96 in Tests against Australia and 69.18 in Tests away from home.
Nah not weird, he was just a big occasion player.

No question about the all rounder skill, but batting I would take Barrington. The guy pretty much had a perfect test career from batting perspective. Scored runs against everyone, Everywhere and for a good amount of time too.

in one of these series the Indians beat the English 2-0
Tbf England were missing Trueman that series (their 2 main spinners ended up bowling about 60 overs each per test). But nonetheless, an excellent display by Kenny that series, almost 200 runs clear of his closest teammate, 3 centuries in 9 innings (only player with multiple centuries)
