Chappell did put Border very low in the top 25 Ashes cricketers of his lifetime.
Wow, he's even below Johnson and Swann. That's too harsh but it does show that Border being so highly rated is a CW quirk. Steve Waugh missed out entirely when he's the best Australian batsman in England in the last 30 years.

Haha yeah but Ian Chappell hates Steve Waugh! Border is one of those guys that stats nerds (I’m one of those to an extent) will love due to such a nice balanced distribution but people who aren’t as lost in the numbers will question why he batted below 4 so much.

Yeah despite all his ability S.Waugh was certainly unpopular with many. Think it may have been Warne who accused him of being the most selfish
player he ever came across.
As far as Chappell's top 25 ashes players are concerned, once you see him put Swann above Border and no Waugh at all, it's time to take no notice.

It was indeed Warne. A lot of people think Waugh was excessively selfish. Chappell's list is rubbish.

Kallis' did have a SR of 54 and averaged 67 in a latter phase of his career, mostly because the rest of the lineup was scoring at a faster pace too. He pretty much followed the tempo of the rest of the batting order.
Funny that this period mostly represents De Villiers' career, at the same SR. AB might just be the best pacer of an innings ever, and Kallis is definitely too slow.

Some stats are had to read.

De Villiers the Test bat is a divisive topic.
I doubt anybody will argue that his ability to pace an innings was not top tier, regardless of how highly they think of him overall.

He's another one that fits nicely into my not outs in losses theory. Only 2 NOs in losses, despite mostly batting low down.

It almost like people have a personal biased instinctive opinion that they then try to retroactively produce stats to appear 'correct' and/or 'partial' in opinion... pretty much like every opinion most people have in life...
