Is there any better WK in Australia than Wade?

Tangles

Wade might provide a bit of lip but it hardly compensates for the fact that Nevill is a far superior keeper and a slightly better batsman (IMO).
Boof likes Wade and Smith might for all we know. The selectors should recall Nevill but I suspect Wade gets a home summer at this point. The way Nevill was ejected when there were others more to blame for the batting have me wondering if his cards are marked. And maybe just by Boof. Someone like Carey needs to step up.

3 Shield rounds before the Ashes will decide to a large extent what the Aus side will look like. Smith, Warner, Lyon are safe but that's it. The quicks will depend on who's fit.

My early prediction:
- Wade is done
- but they won't want to go back to Nevill,
- so they're waiting for a young keeper to perform well in those early Shield rounds to pick. Actually one specific young keeper that they hope does well to justify his selection:
- Alex Carey. They've pretty much already decided he'll be playing IMO.

Just a guess

It's good policy when you really use your brain and think about it for a moment..

With Haddin, Johnson and Clarke gone we lost the last of our truly hard men. Without a bit of gumption and brawn behind the stumps or in the team for that matter, how can the majority of the Australian viewing audience respect the national team which otherwise would seem like a group of passive, bland, blank slates? I wouldn't. I mean I see myself as somewhat of an alpha male, and I could never respect a Peter Nevill, Wade however despite being a midget under 6'1 overcomes that with gusto, fight and testosterone which Nevill or any other wicket-keeping candidate in Australia lacks.

Also as a side note, with Watson gone in addition to those previous three, the meme value of this side has gone down significantly. Wade is a necessary evil to that end of replenishing those stocks, and that value was proven last summer when the casuals used him as a proxy to make Lyon popular all of a sudden.

I probably did over assume, sorry Gnske. I probably had Matt Wade more in mind, who I detest everything about and who you defended
so you imply that he's a racist? lol dude . . .

You lost it there mate when you described Johnson as a "hard man"..........the rest of the post was mostly bollocks, but that........that's just ridiculous.

Young batsman struggling a little as he finds his way in tough conditions in his second away series.

"Lets give him the gloves!"

Clarke's not a hard man either. Bit of a wannabe really. Must be the inferiority complex because he couldn't match up to the manliness of the Pontings, Waughs, Borders before him.

Really, Hartley or Nevill should be the incumbent right now. It's ludicrous that Wade is anywhere near the test setup. And it's equally insane that Hartley never got to play a test match.

no in my mind i was accusing him of being sheltered. i can see in the context of the previous paragraph how it'd come across like that. need to stop going off tangent so much in my posting ha

but yeah, too far either way. i apologise again. i just really hate sledging, bullying and teasing in general

Some truth to this. Clarke was a relatively effeminate guy compared with his predecessors. He actually did alright being a "tough guy" in the last few years of his career though.

"Get ready for a broken ****ing arm" was epic. Never respected the guy more than at that moment. Not that that kind of sledging should always be encouraged, but on that occasion it was more than appropriate.

Something that has really started to get to me from a cricket viewing pov is batsman with hard hands who never seem to learn or adapt. Too many Saffers, Ozzies, Kiwi's & Pom's seem to have this situation now. Wade is one of those rigid hand boys isn't he that somehow survives too long and has never learnt to adapt.

Kinda feel like 'Are there better Australian 'keepers than Wade?' is the cricketing version of 'Is the Pope a Catholic' or 'Does a bear **** in the woods?' tbh

It's the intellectual plane that Darren Lehmann operates on though.
Yeah, well his idiotic selection policy hasn't exactly born fruit. Wade will go down in history as the worst test keeper Australia has ever had.

I guess the ability to keep wicket and score runs is more important to a team's performance than the ability to sledge. Geez, whoda thunk it?

Has anyone in the Oz camp actually said (or implied) that Nevill was too nice / didn't sledge well enough? Or is it just something we've decided?

Seems clear to me that Wade was brought back because Nevill didn't score enough runs and they thought Wade would do better. With his two tons to Nev's high score of 66 that's not a huge stretch. It's not like they always intended him to score nowt this tour.

I think the nice is inferred because Boof or Smith made comments about Wades chat/attitude matching the brand of cricket they wanted.

I cbf pulling the stats but they decided to weight Wades test average in his favor while ignoring his FC form.

The leadership team came out and said that Wade was picked for his impact on team culture. Which is ridiculous, might as well pick Boony instead, at least he could play.

To be fair to Wade's batting his recall has coincided with tours to the sub-continent where most of the Aus batsmen have been useless.
