Is Ricky Ponting a better batsman than Brian Lara?

Ricky Ponting vs Lara

I highlight the IMO part because it is probably the most important part of your post. I thank you for having the awareness of placing it there.

It is merely an arbitrary and subjective quality with regards to how people react to certain styles and approaches to batting. For me, Sehwag and Gilchrist look like Gods when on song. But I clearly know they are probably not even the best batsmen of their eras. To simply disregard what others have achieved or exaggerate more on behalf of Sehwag and Gilchrist merely because of how I reacted to their batting, rather than their actual records, is not befitting someone who wishes to seriously debate the efforts of said batsmen.
Good point. It's what I mentioned before - better to watch doesn't necessarily mean a better batsman.

That doesn't make you anymore of an authority on the subject. Anyway if that's your opinion on Lara and Tendulkar you're entitled to it and there's no definitive right or wrong opinion.
It was you who thought you were more of an authority on the subject, others have just been discussing the subject and you have come onto the thread trolling and looking for reactions from personal comments. Just stick to the subject and leave your BS at the door.

Nope, all I said was:
"Lara is one of the handful of true batting geniuses in the history of the game. Fans of cricket should just be grateful to have had two geniuses like Lara and Tendulkar playing in the same era along side Ponting instead of this continual petty decimal point scoring."

That's just my opinion. I didn't try to validate it by saying I used to earn a living playing cricket.

You just cant stick to the subject can you. Not only that you seem to be unable to read and comprehend the written word.

I think you need to watch a bit closer.

You remind me of the teenage girls that used to hang around the malls waiting to see the Bay city Rollers and would scream and faint when they did see them. Maybe you are watching too closely. When you grow up you will see what I mean.

You might not know much about cricket but I'll bow to your superior knowledge of girls hanging around malls. That explains a lot actually.

You didnt know teenage boys think they know a lot about teenage girls but really have no idea because they're too busy pulling their own puds, no wonder you think someone who hits a ball is a genius.
Fixed.

Not at all. I can well believe you had to wait until they'd fainted to get your hands on a girl.
Quite normal Lillian, when your reasoning is failing you do what you have to. You have no sensible arguement so you attack the poster instead. Thats what you trolls do.

Oh and your next move is to call me the troll and pud pulling Burgey will pop up with the same deal.:laugh:

I think his point is if only 1 game in 30 is played on seaming tracks and/or against a world class attack, it is pretty much negligible.
Negligible if you are comparing batsmen A & B & C of the same era who play under such circumstances i.e this 2000s era & maybe the 1930s who may have 50+ averages.

But if you want to compare across eras to batsmen D & E & F who had to play 10-15 out 30 games on bowler friendly decks againts a world class attack & succeded (i.e in the 90s or 70s) - & possibly averaged less than 50+ (rather in the 40s) like batsman A,B, C.

Then it is not negligible at all. Theirfore the performances of batsmen A, B, C in most cases cant be as good as batsmen D, E & F.
