Starting to get why you guys have been skeptical of Shreyas Iyer in the past. He did not cover himself in glory against Umran Malik in particular the other night. Looked like a domestic cricketer when it was fast and short.

Buuuuuut he scored test runs and Poohane have not been so full power to him.
Shreyas Iyer's main issue is going ultra-defensive and just switching to slogging out of the blue. You'd prefer batsmen who play each ball on its merit before changing gears. Playing pre-meditated shots is his biggest problem and I hope he fixes it.

Another duck for Kohli today.

He will play every IPL game but the guy desperately needs a break ,,,the next and solitary test for India in England is 1st July, once the IPL is done I think their is no more cricket for him?

Although you could argue he could have the whole England series even including the test as he needs as much time as possible away from cricket to recharge.

Umran Malik is an interesting one, I hope he and Mavi are kept away from white ball cricket. We have Nattu, Bumrah, Chahar, Shardul and even new names like Mukesh Choudhary, Akash Deep, Arshdeep, etc. who can be fitted in the white ball teams. Bumrah and Shami look cooked despite of how they are performing, they looked like they were losing steam even in SA, time to manage the next crop of bowlers a little better.

Weird take really, as if the new names you mentioned can bring what Umran and Mavi (especially Umran) can to both white ball and red ball cricket.

I'd keep Umran as a white-ball specialist tbh. no way his body can sustain bowling that pace over longer formats and he has no real skills to fall back on. Best kept as a shock factor, hard to slog, poor man's Lockie Ferguson imo.
No reason Umran can't progress over time. Ferguson himself went from 2 overs of heat per club game to a world class bowler who should have 10-20 tests to his name.

Whatever little chance Rishi Dhawan has of making it to the Indian team will go down if he gets more games in the IPL. LO games are simply not suited for his game.

He might make it to the test side if Shardul and R Chahar are injured and we need a replacement seam-bowling AR, but most probably he'll get thrashed in the IPL and be forgotten. Would love it if he proves me wrong.

Should the Ranji Trophy allow overseas players?

I think they should allow 1 Player per Elite Team and 2 per Plate Team. There is a huge number of teams anyways, the talent is a bit diluted. This raises the standard. Plus if we're serious about improving the standard of cricket in the 'smaller' states, allowing them 2 overseas pro will really help that.
Did Murali played ranji? If I'm not wrong.
