Howz dinesh karthik?

KKD Karthik's stumping of Micheal Vaughan was unbelievable, amazing, and that too in a nerve-wracking situation. India finally have someone that can be called a "wicket-keeper." I think Karthik brings a great attitude and enthusiasm into the team, but seeing the way he batted, i think he belongs somewhere in the top/middle order. I'm not kidding, I said this even a month before he got selected to play in the holland cup. He's a class batsman, not a slogger. I bet he would do great in tests but MS Dhoni should be given a chance in one-days because Dhoni's a one-day specialist wicket-keeper batsman. I still dont understand why some idiots are saying that india does not have any wicketkeepers. We have to two excellent ones in karthik and dhoni, the only problem was that the worst one of them all, a chubby little kid named Parthiv AKA "the little devil," played for the indian team.

Whatever it takes!!!
If you look at his innings, you would see that he was middling the ball reasonably well. He was nervous and was sorted out by the #1 bowler in the world. I don't think he did too much wrong. He just couldn't pierce the field and the Englishmen employed good tactics by bringing their close fielders even closer for him. Maybe when he settles down, we can all judge him then.

thats why i said that ?? WAOH WHAT AN ACCHIVEMENT, YET ANOTHER WORLD's NUMBER ONE YET AGAIN FROM INDIA ? ONE STUMPING AND THERE WE GO ? he Definately deserved one more thread right ?
Now I 've seen so many threads like that for example " Mongias marvelous innings of 12 runs " . Munaf Pat is the World's fastest bowler " . " Ashish Nehra is most deservingly world's best swinger " ..
So gotta say atleast some thing .
Sick and tired ........

Hmmm i think if you said he suits the top order more , i think you could try opening him along with ganguly rather than sehwag coming in and walking out in the space of a minute.. he certainly doesnt look the slogger type agreed.. that would give india more options i feel.. keep out gavaskar he hasnt done nothing of late..

I still support Patel over Karthik. From what I heard his innings wasn't that flash.

Can't judge him off one performance although that stumping was amazing. I was impressed with him in the under 19's world cup but thats a different game altogether. I still firmly believe Dravid is easily the best option in one dayers. He rarely lets them down as far as cathing is concerned. And the odd bye he lets through is made up by the extra batsman being able to play

Hey, we've got a guy here who averages 46 in First-Class-cricket. He averages 20 in one-dayers? What do we do, oh esteemed selection-panel?

Yes, that's right, we pick him for ODIs!!!!!
Good a keeper as he seems to be (and he did drop a pretty straightforward chance off Kumble), there's no evidence that he can bat to the standards neccessary for ODIs.
Dravid is still the best option when it matters, IMO.

Yeah your right Richard, his FC record indicates he is a much better 4-5 day batsman.

But the selection panel did include him for India in ODI's as Karthik recently clubbed a half century of 30 balls and against Sri Lanka 'A' while playing for India 'A'.

He also came up with some other very fast and very solid innings, but I can't remember those. So his performances in other OD games have been pretty good.

Coming in in the final 8-10 overs on debut isn't enough to judge his batting ability.
Give him time and back your players (like Ganguly did with Patel).

I agree, it's too early to judge his batting or for that matter even his wicket-keeping.

During his short stint in the middle, he was troubled by Harmison in that one over in which he got out. But whatever he put his bat on, he middled it. That suggests that the talent is surely there. It's difficult to bat in the last 10 overs even if you've played 100+ ODIs, so for a debutant, it's a pressure cooker. Let's see how he does over a period of time under different conditions and in different situations, before judging if he's a worthy batsman or not.

Yes, one stumping isn't all you can judge a keeper by. But he held on to everything that came his way, which suggests that he's not hopelessly mediocre, but a definate prospect for the future. Once again, I'd say the same - let's give him time, and see what he has to show us.

Fair comments rich.. but i think they just trying to work out a wicket keeper to serve as backup for dravid.. if dravid felt the heat of keeping a lot , or found it trouble to cope both keeping and batting.. i still feel think it might be better than seeing Patel as a backup keeper..

At least Karthik can keep. Dravid can't keep for toffees, and Parthiv has a lot of catching up to do. Besides, Karthik is a batsman of top-6 quality, and that should keep him in the team. A good bonus. No point looking at the List-A limited overs stats. They're the most misleading figures one can get. Anyone who can bat well in Tests can bat well anywhere. As for Dhoni, he has no technique at all- he bats like Balaji, and even looks like him!

Are you for real man ?? Karthik has played one game and you want his replacement in ODIs ? Now that he is in the team, Let the Kid play for a while. If he doesn't deliver as a WK and batsman both, we can try dhoni as well.

Dropped Vaughan on 37.

It was 1 off 12 balls, when he batted, just one over. Doesn't suggest he middled too much...

So no need for Laxman or Dravid, because the top 6 has Pathan and Karthik now (!)

Last itme I looked, he hadn't played Tests, and why are List A figure the most misleading ones?
