i reckon also the ethos of the thread is to pick an xi from guys who perform exceptionally well in certain conditions

otherwise you'd just have every team with bradman, mcgrath, sobers, maybe one or two of the historical openers, maybe smith, and so on, would ruin the sorta fun lol

Dhoni would be much safer (and often exceptional) with the gloves up to the stumps and just about as good batting I would have thought
Nah even with his home record, there’s a considerable difference between the insane genius that is Pant and Dhoni as far as batting goes.
Could argue the same for keeping, but Pant is definitely getting better

Dhoni averaged 46 at home. Even if Pant continues at this level, which is unlikely, Dhoni's batting output is about the same in these conditions. And his keeping is much better. With the ball spitting and turning, keeping low, bouncing high, having a better keeper like Dhoni would be worth more even if Pant averaged 100 with the bat

If you're picking a team overall, for all conditions, that's different but with these specific parameters in mind Dhoni is surely the choice

Stephen Fleming????
First of all he was a middle order bat (not an opener), 2nd you should pick him on a bunsen vs Murali (awesome record in Asia esp SL) but terrible at home in NZ. Change Fleming to Mark Richardson for a green top.
