Agree with Fuller here. You can't really say Watson hasn't been performing in the last couple season with bat and bowl, when his played. Maybe not to his so-called potential, but how many players really do when they get hyped up so much. But certainty more then a bits and pieces level like Hopes. His not fighting wirh Flintoff for a spot in Australian team, it is with Hopes. When fit he wins hands down.

I heard somewhere Watson wasn't bowling anymore... I suppose that must have changed.

White's form not the greatest this year.

Since coming back from injury his bowling has been pretty average, but so has the rest of Queensland team.

He isn't bowling ATM, he's said that he'd never ever give up bowling. So more precautionary than anything, a bit like Flintoff being selected as a specialist bat for the English Lions tour of NZ.

Australia should revert back to what they did around 1997 and replace the AR every game more or less, then being Symonds, Harvey and S. Lee. 8-)

Watson's been bowling for quite a few weeks now, actually. He's bowled in the last few one day games, he bowled his four overs in every match of the Twenty20 comp I think (although I'm not sure) and he bowled in the last first class match as well. He's been bowling pretty well in that time, too.

Didn't know that. I was just getting my information from when he returned - the time when he scored a string of ducks.

I wouldn't chance him again, tbh. Selectors adore the bloke, though.

I'd PREFER to see white get a go, but it will be Hopes; possibly Noffke knocking on the door, also.

James Hopes.
I agree that Hopes should be ahead of Watson at the moment until he can get some form and fitness...but Watson is the better long term option

Oh yeah, sorry to be off topic, however can you please change your avater, it's horrific......

I know you lost a bet, however if ever there was a time to reneg......

I suppose it would be hard to drop Hopes, so I'd think they'll go with him. He hasn't done anything wrong. Though I wonder if he's had injury problems too, I thought it was odd that he didn't bowl in the last T20 match for Queensland. Surely if you're an Australian all-rounder you'd be bowling for your state if you were fit?

I think Watson should play the twenty20 - Hopes wasn't picked either in the last match, and Watson's performance in the domestic T20 was excellent. I'd also expect Hayden to need a rest at some point in the series, and perhaps Ponting too. There's no reason not to bring Watson in for a couple of matches in that case.

Cam White and Watto.

White could be used as a pinch hitter or finisher, even if he didn't bowl at all.

Watson is a very handy bat and his bowling is alright also.

Interesting to see some people opting for both...I wonder who would be dropped if two all-rounders were selectors alongside Symonds.

I think the call for both was an implicit call for the dropping of Symonds, given who was saying it.

Watson, when fit, he's far more than a bits & pieces player, as he showed in 2006/2007.

Hopes. Although David Hussey would fill the void nicely, have you seen his bowling recently?

But will the Australian selectors keep picking a blonde all-rounder called Shane? *cough*lee*cough*warne*cough*

Watson and Hopes for mine, if a place can be found for both.

If only one, then Hopes atm, but if Watson is fully fit, then I reckon he's the better option.

Why White doesn't get picked for Twenty20's is beyond me. One of the main reasons we didn't do as well as expected at the WC last year, imo.

Hopes still wins at the moment but not for long. It's not so much a fitness issue with Watson because he can be replaced fairly easily...it's not like we're taking him on tour. The problem is that he's only had about a month of good cricket this season and before that he's been dire. White hasn't done anything since returning from injury and it's still too early to consider Noffke as a genuine allrounder because his batting isn't up to standard.

Let's be honest, when was Australia's last brilliant, world-class all-rounder?
Simon O'Donnell was the greatest AUS ODI all-rounder. Who's career was interuppted by cancer and then messed around by idiot AUS selectors in the 90's

Watson is my vote
