I had an essay here* but I think the title is enough. Standards haven't slipped from 12 months ago, they're in freefall. NZ B 12 months ago beat England and they'd ****ing smash the current NZ.

Take Larsen and Jurgenson while you're at it. And stop selecting 7 specialist batsmen and 3 bowlers. Pick your actually good for once spinner. Pick batsmen who actually score runs in the Shield and not just because they bowl some part time trash offies and share a last name with a decent spinner. Win games you're expected to win and are paid extremely well for. Fire David "lol tests and odis there is only t20" White and throw Chris "women shouldn't play test cricket" Barclay down a well.

Players come into this team and start well then get visibly worse in how they are playing, not just in raw production. Seriously if we slide back to what we were when we have these players at our disposal then I'm out. I would rather support a country that gives a ****. I have zero interest in watching my team become a t20 specialist side who has played *checks notes* considerably less than 20 odis this cycle and tries very hard to cut tests and FC cricket.

And if we somehow win this dead rubber idgaf the circus is still a joke. Only reason I don't want KW to lose the captaincy (because we know how he is with spinners) is Latham isn't test standard in SENA conditions against teams who don't bowl Hawke Cup pacers at him.

*proceeds to write second essay like a ****ing nerd.

*BJ Watling.

That's the man we need. Someone with mana, who commands respect, knows what success at international level looks like. He'll attract good people too. Hope he kills it with Wellington.
Why not Bruce Edgar? Isn't Watling batting coach to Edgar's head coach? Bring them both in imo.

That said I've never been a huge fan of players just retired coaching players they've been playing with for years.

The dream team is probably Fleming, Bond, Batting Coach with Edgar as selector again. He was ace and the players spoke highly of him even when he dropped them.

Unfortunately pretend cricket and pretend teams hoover up all our coaching talent.

Bruce isn't available anymore, he has taken up cricket director and red ball coach role for Firebirds. Great move.

Your two best players in England benefitted directly from being part of the Rajasthan Royals set up, and England's coach honed his skills at KKR. Your bowlers got thumped by a batter coming straight out of the IPL as well.

If anything not enough of your lot are involved with the IPL, that's why you're sliding into mediocrity.

Source?

Mitchell is good now because when he moved to Canterbury he put heavy work into playing spin, playing down the ground and improving his bowling. This is on record Spark Sport commentary 2021-22.

I love the passion for the IPL. I truly do. But that's not the reason at all for our mediocrity. Not one bit. And Boult wasn't our second best player, Blundell was.

The IPL has affected Kane greatly, in my opinion and others. The elbow injury, the energy spent on that tournament and captaining, adapting his game etc. Conway didn't seem to get a lot out of the IPL, even though he scored runs. Nor Southee. Mitchell was on the rise before being picked up. Tim Seifert has played IPL for a while, and hasn't looked like getting better at international level.
