Faf retires from test cricket

Heboric

International Regular
Faf has retired from test cricket and to concentrate on T20, with the World Cups in mind

Personally I was a fan, he might not be as talented as an AB but he contributed and a good captain. Will never forget his heroics in Australia and that cheeky declaration at Adelaide .

Probably the right time to call it. A good captain and a batsman who achieved just about right in Tests for his level of talent. The debut blockathon, his hundred vs India in Joburg 2013 and a couple of knocks in the India 2018 tour of SA stand out for me.

He's been a very valuable player for us over the years, but sadly has been on the decline for a while, so probably the right decision.

Damn, was coming with his overall form taking a dip (despite the double ton and whatnot). Sad to see him go, thought he might carry on for bit, but seems to be the right call tbh. Played some super gun knocks, but IMO certainly had the goods to perform better than he did.

he retires with an average of 40.02, just in time to avoid the newly created 'best batsmen with averages under 40' thread.

hmmm interesting ?
Did he just recently go over that? I remember he was on 39 the last time I checked a couple of months back.

A good player across all formats and one of the best fielders ever. Felt like he didn't really have peaks or bad years. Just a steady output every year. His stats might say otherwise but I have checked
