I get that stokes wanted to play aggressive and bowl to aus openers late on day 1. But Robinson and Root looked good to put on another 50 runs at least. This whole match poised now could come down to those extra runs England didn’t make. Who knows how they’ll go their 2nd innings

I'm all for this new exciting cricket but the declaration was very risky against the Aussies. If we lose this test the media will jump on him especially after the NZ test backfired.

I do wonder if the weather had anything to do with it.

forecasting a couple of days out is a lot more reliable than it was a decade or two ago; we’ve know all along rain was going to sabotage today.

I’m amazed at how much it’s rattling the Aussie fans mind

I really wonder if they have actually watched any of England games in the last 12 months ?

Not sure saying "thats a bit daft" qualifies as rattling, but sure.

If England are happy to only make Aus bowl 80 overs an inning, while England bowl 110 an innings, over a 5 test series, with the 2 main 'strike' bowlers eyeing off the pension and Mo having pastry fingers, then good luck.

You can’t always get away against decent sides by simply playing mind games.

Even if it were due to weather, this is a first game in 5 test series ffs. It’s not like your side is tailing by 1-2 and this is the last game, so that you have to win it in order to level the series. I would take my chance with rain and continue batting without any pressure of enforcing the result.

If you have an obvious advantage, why would you willingly give it up? It was a silly decision regardless of the final outcome.
