Hopefully Foakes.
Yeah. Will Jacks has held it together pretty well in the face of concrete and picking a batting allrounder instead of a bowling allrounder at 8 isn't that weird, especially when they're an offie.

Wouldn't mind the extra seamer on what is hopefully a more fair surface next week but it's not especially necessary.

I just don't see Overton posing a threat in this part of the world, even if the pitch isn't a complete road. A fit Mark Wood might be a different matter.

Given the cesspit of a thread some multi numpty started overnight, I just want to say how much Shane Warne would have loved watching this England team. Everything he yearned for from the box; be prepared to lose to win.

We'll do well to get that many now that Jacks has gone. Hopefully the bowlers are under instructions to stick around and leave it to Brook.
Better to declare now. This will give Pakistan a feeling that they can easily chase it...and then as history has shown they will collapse and play their worst cricket.

I know this a crude bit if maths, but if England had scored their runs this match at the same run-rate Pakistan scored theirs at, they would have used about 100 extra overs, and, given loss of time due to the light, the match would be almost over by now. What Bazball has done in this match is like turning a 5-day test into a 6-day test, which makes a result so much more likely. Whether that turns out to be good for England or good for Pakistan remains to be seen.

Brook is on the cusp of making twin centuries in a test on debut & breaking the fastest test century by an Englishman which has stood for 120 years.
