England players and selection discussion thread

Since Stokes is unlikely to risk bowling they might go for an all seam attack with Potty and leave out Bash,
especially as its TB, doesnt usually favour spin does it?

Last season Porter was Essex's leading wicket taker 56 wickets at 19.25 4 5fers while Cook took 43 at 17.30 2 5fers

Porter was very unlucky that for much of his career, Broad, Anderson and Woakes were pretty much home bankers. I think he did get close to a test squad once but had to pull out? As I said earlier I want Cook to play somewhere other than Lord’s so that the trumpet man plays Stand by Me!

But a collection of potential England spinners stats so far.

Leach 19 wickets @28.17
Kellaway 9 wickets @28.33
M Parkinson 5 wickets @28.40
Dawson 11 wickets @31.27
F Ahmed 9 wickets @31.77
Tazeem Ali 8 wickets @35.75
Bess 5 wickets @42.60
Lawrence 8 wickets @48.62
Hartley 7 wickets @55.85
R Ahmed 2 wickets @56.00
Carson 6 wickets @60.66
Bashir 2 wickets @152.00

It is mental that Bashir hasn't even been the best spinner at his loan club Glamorgan this season. Yet he's getting backed to the hilt this summer it seems.

I think it would be fair to assume that if Bashir had played for Somerset, he wouldn't now have 19 wickets at 28. He's not been helped by playing on some flat surfaces (something which has definitely not helped Carson's cause either), but there's just no way he should really be in the frame at all. Indian batsmen will kill him, I'm not sure Zimbabwean will necessarily get a look.

It is utterly preposterous that he is in the squad. If I recall, he didn't get a bowl in the victory against West Indies at Lord's last summer?

Yep bowled us to victory and took a 5fer in the 4th innings at Trent Bridge in the second test though. Since the second test against WI he's been crap.

Decent start up until that point though

I know that there is no way that they can pick Leach for Australia, as his lack of revs will get crucified down there, but surely he's a better pick for the India series?
