Elliot should replace Langer

Maybe you are - he's one of the best at getting hit, but while he's not bad I wouldn't describe him as excellent at taking catches.

Jimmy Adams and Wavell Hinds have taken some fantastic catches at short-leg. I remember a couple by the latter in the first Test v England in 2000 - amazing!

I've only seen video highlights, but Gary Sobers was an awesome close in fielder.

How could you forget the 5ft 2 Tasmanian with the flared pants - David Boon.

Langer was good but took a lot of heavy blows.

In the Aussie team at the moment the new guy nearly always gets the job. Katich at the moment.

How very silly.
Why not simply have the best fielder for the position?

It's a complete waste of a fielder for a seamer, anyway. How many decent batsmen get out caught at short-leg?
For a spinner, for me, you need a specialist, just like you do with slips and silly-points, not simply the newest guy in the team.

Mark Ramprakash - genius.
Brian Lara - crap.
Jimmy Adams - ubercrap.

And practically every batsman who has played cricket for an extended period...

Remember bodyline?

Langer and hayden used to rotate through there each session. Langer has now been advised not to and Hayden has to field at slip caus Martyn cant catch without breaking a finger:rolleyes: but Katich does field there for NSW sometimes.

Clarke i would doubt will ever have to field there as he will field in the gully (steve waugh will have retired - unless the batsmen go through what the bowlers did...) or covers, slips or even outfield.

The victorian opener is in good form and i reckon should replace Langer. What do you reckon.
I reckon Elliott should retire and go do something else, especially now that he's said that he'll never play for Australia again...go back to England and take your attitude with you. Little wonder he's not well liked around Australian cricket.

You can throw in Des Haynes at short leg for that list.
