That only 5-five wicket haul was by an SLA, Santner.

Is it a success as yet?

We are not seeing high scoring matches in this world cup, to be honest.

There have been just 2-3 such games...in particular South Africa v Sri Lanka and Pakistan v Sri Lanka, partly down to the incompetence of the Lankan attack.

300 or perhaps 320 has been a par score in ODI for some time but a number of matches not even reaching that, whereas our expectation was that significant no. of matches would have scores in excess of 350.

Maybe the pitches are slowing down with more matches and the pressure of the world cup is not allowing the teams to bat as aggressively. Especially the last 8-9 games, scores have really come down. Even 280 feels like a match winning total.

World Cup games are often lowering scoring than the par in the JAMODIs leading up to them because frontline bowlers are rested more than frontline batsmen in bilaterals, especially if they also play Tests.

This, but also the mental factor of playing in a World Cup. Your shot execution can be a little bit different in a World Cup game with seemingly higher stakes to an ODI at Saxton Oval.

I preferred odi's back in the day when 250 was a good score and 300 almost unheard of. Now it's just a longer version of t20. Haven't really paid too much attention to wc's for ages for this reason. I'm a dinosaur though.

Tend to measure 4wi in LOIs rather than 5, given they can only bowl 10 overs max is much harder to take wickets in bigger quantities. I'd suggest a 3wi is probably near a hundred in worth on flatter pitches

also factor in pitches being flat and a top 6 usually with batsmen capable of hundreds, ODIs have not always been all about the batting but mainly, even back in the 90s 250-280 a good score, now you get 300+ and 400+ so inevitable there will be hundreds to facilitate that

100 agree. 1 ball throughout so reverse swing remains a factor, first 15 over fielding restrictions...

Good days.

You really can’t compare odi centuries to 5 wicket hauls in odis. Batsmen have a way better chance to get a century especially if they’re in the top 3 and bat through the powerplay. Compared to a bowler that can share the wickets amongst a good bowling attack and are always brought in and out the attack. And have only 10 overs to bowl. You compare the top bowlers and batters currently in odis and the centuries and 5 wicket hauls aren’t even close. Sometimes 3-4 wickets by a bowler is pretty much similar to a century for them

Unbelievable similarity to 2015 WC 🤪

2015 ODI WC
Total centuries:38
Total 4 or 4+ wkt haul:24

Current World Cup at exact half way stage(24/48)
Total Centuries: 19
Total 4 or 4+ wkt haul :12

And like 2015 WC , last 4 would be IND, AUS, SA, NZ 😟

And like 2015 WC we may have
IND vs AUS in SF
NZ vs SA in SF 😳
