That SA series had a ton of negative effects on our test cricket, NGL. Injured green and starc and ruled them out of the first 2 tests in India which arguably cost us a 2-1 win in that series and gave Warner a 12 month lease in test cricket he really shouldn't have gotten.

Warner may make a tom of runs in England and make me eat my words, but playing on when our next 10 tests were in india/England where he'de never performed, even at his best wads always a train wreck waiting to happen.

tbh, the banter between him and Broad has been awesome. Warner basically said "right now I am worried about Shami and Siraj. I will worry about Broad if they pick him for the first test this time." :laugh:

Yeah some of the pre-Ashes stuff has been pretty good natured. Smith and Broad on Instagram was decent and the AI stuff they did the other night during the Ireland match with Broad and Anderson asking it how to get Smith out was good for a giggle.

It looks as if Warner was politely asked to leave, but he presented it to journalists as his wish.

I mean what was special about him? Seems to be just a normal captain in the right place.

Although not sure they played much list a which would harm their combined totals

He took 365 wickets in 1875 and 385 in 1877, also exceeding seventy catches each time.

The most runs Ramprakash scored in a FC season was 2278 in 2006, 2258 in 1995, and 2026 in 2007. I think he only passed 3000 in 1995 (3099), though if you include T20 he got close in 2006.
Sangakkara averaged well over 100 in FC for Surrey 2016, but only scored about 1500 runs.

Other players to score over 3000 runs in a FC+List A season (since 1961) are Kallicharran, Zaheer, Moody, Amiss, Gatting and Chris Broad.

Interesting re Jimmy Cook. I kinda thought he was like Clive Rice in that he was a great 70s/80s player but by the time SA got reinstated into international cricket he was old and past it. Seems like Cook was absolutely still a beast by 92
