Crap Bowling Spells Thread

My mind raced back to 1996 when England got absolutely pummeled by Sri Lanka. I couldn't remember the specifics of the bowling figures but having glanced at the scorecard, surely Phil DeFreitas going for 38 in 3.4 overs must come into consideration. For the era, that was pretty phenomenal. I was a big fan of Daffy in the early to mid 90s too.

The very first World Cup match I watched was Australia vs New Zealand in 2011. My main memories are the oddness of Hamish Bennett's bowling action and the seemingly countless fours hit off him as he went at nine on over. My only other memory is of finding Tim Southee's name amusing.

Manoj Prabhakar got hit for 40 odd in 2 overs in what proved to be his last international appearance. That was also my introduction to Jayasuriya (and Kaluwitharana)

This is some memory. The origin story of an ODI legend!
Yup in hindsight it was a defining moment in ODI cricket. Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharana had had one good series in Australia but the world didn't really know about their destructive ability (particularly Jayasuriya, obv). This was their 'announcing to the world' moment. As a cricket fan, I remember being dumbfounded by that assault because that's not how cricket was played!

PS. this was in 1996 world cup. Here's the scorecard: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...-vs-sri-lanka-24th-match-65179/full-scorecard

lol. For me, the confusing part was why was he bowling offspin in his second spell. Anyone can have a bad day but why the **** would you not back yourself to do better in your main skill.
He may have been asked to bowl spin by captain.

Found the video of the game. Lankan assault starts at 5:55

Also, Prabhakar went for 32 or so in 2 overs, not 40.

Thr combined efforts of Abdur Rehman, Shoaib Akhtar and Adbul Razzaq against Taylor and Oram in the 2011 WC. 4 overs for 92. I guess Rehman's 32 off two overs was the only "spell" as the other two only had an over each, conceding 28 and 32 respectively. While Taylor's assault was brutal, the wheels really came off the bowling in face of it.
