Was reading a news byte this morning - Two comments from two Aussie Players :-

Shane Watson - "Personally, I'd go anywhere, I just want to play for my country"

Andrew Symonds :- "It is only a game of cricket at the end of the day, and putting yourself in a position where you're not safe, is ridiculous,"

While I dont fault Symonds for his opinion and stand, I am greatly impressed by Shane Watson's take on the issue. I wish more and more people had same enthusiasm and attitude. I just became his fan today.

Please keep it nice, this isn't a battle field.

I thought if I was unsafe, I would not go. Cricket is a game, and not worth your life. I'd try to make a logical decision about it though.

2 attitudes at 180 degrees. One sems to be the nationalist and purely professional one. A professional must go to anywhere his country needs him. All the places are ok if it comes under the rules of ICC and your cricket board. People are loved because of their attitudes. Watson is loved everywhere and all the guys know very well about the other one.

I'd go anywhere with my country should I play for them. I mean, if I had the talent, I'd want to play in every single game humanely possible and nowhere on that list jumps out as 'death-zone', so I'd be cool with any of those places.

I am sorry, but I do not understand the 'Nationalistic' part.

Personally, if the cricket board said it was okay to go I reckon I'd go. Leave it up to the experts.

The closest I've been to this is that I went to Istanbul with work a couple of years ago a couple of days after bombs went off there. I wondered when I saw the news report, but the work security advice (it's a big multinational company) said it was okay to go, and I thought the likelihood of anything happening to me was extremely slim, so I went.

Yup, those masters of organisation known as the world's cricket boards...

Anyway, rather hypothetical question. Probably wouldn't go to Zimbabwe as it's tacit support for Mugabe, Chingoka & Bvute. Musharraf at least doesn't try to use sports as an example of his society functioning, and given the Test crowds in Pakistan it's probably safe to play Tests there  .

I kind of meant the security experts that the boards are using. If the ECB said go, having had a security expert's report, I reckon for me that would be fair enough.
If there is anyone I'd trust less than a cricket board, it would be a 'security expert'. Having worked in that industry, it is the biggest load of crap I've ever seen.

But even then security has been flawless as far as cricket is concerned. I don't remember any security crisis during a cricket match, though it is there with football. Are you refering to football or cricket?

A little OT but I remember reading something once that speculated that the 7/7 bombers were originally going to target the Edgbaston Test a month later

We "will" be comfortable playing in? Am I going to be forced to go on a CW world tour?

Definitely wouldn't play in Zimbabwe and would have to think hard about Pakistan. Especially if it was the Champions Trophy.

I wouldn't go to Zimbabwe on moral grounds really.

I wouldn't say i'd be comfotable going to anywhere out side England/Aus/NZ/West Indies, but i'd still really like to go everywhere else. I've never really understood the 'security' concerns players have, is it thought that for being overseas cricketers they will get targetted? Or is it just that they don't want to go to a semi-dangerous country?

Is there anybody who has heard that some player was ever hurt by spectators or terrorists while he was on tour?

Oops, presumed the question was "where would you not be comfortable." So it's not that I have an urge to go to Zimbabwe and nowhere else, far from it...
