Do you reckon he can be the primary slow bowler in the team?

Bert Vogler had a highest ICC rating of 750 points after successes against England both home and away. In comparison, Subhash Gupte's highest rating was 805 and Arthur Mailey's highest rating was 695.

Therefore, at his peak Vogler seemed to have been a very capable leg-spinner. However, he loses out to the other great spinners because his career seemed to burn out too quickly. As Wisden says - 'Strangely enough, considering the height to which he attained in 1907, Vogler accomplished little afterwards'.

So it depends on how how people rate the various players in our teams when it comes to voting time. If they assume Vogler to be the '1907 Vintage' when he claimed 7/128 at Lords then he can easily be your 'primary slow bowler'. However, if people value 'longevity' at all then Vogler would obviously be struggling.

The problem with Vogler as well Faulker and the other googly bowlers is that they were only so successful because no one had a clue how to deal with the googly, in any later era they still would have been good bowlers, but not up to the level that their records suggest.
