Caribbean Thread

Well as the name suggests it'll be about the Caribbean. Mostly about Jamaica though since we usually have the most success. Some surprises in our T&F Trials with the women's 100m Champ from last year's Worlds finishing 4th. Also, in the men's the winner jogged to 9.85, Usain Bolt, and Asafa Powell jogged to 9.97. :D

Interestingly (or perhaps not, but meh) from 88-96 the first man over the line in the men's 100m at each games was a Jamaican-born athlete representing another country.

George Bovell III to medal at some point. No clue what events he's swimming this year.

Marc Burns and Darrel Brown also threats.

'tis a point (last ones who were anywhere close to such times were) - at the same time Julien Dunkley, a 32-year-old rather unknown sprinter, has just been caught by drugs tests for a steroid. This at least hints that the doping programme in Jamaica works.

Hey sledger, been meaning to tell you, some people you know, they can't believe Jamaica has a bobsleigh team!

Apparently he wasn't informed and only found out in the papers. Itstl. Won't get sorted until after the Olympics one feels.

In other news, disagreement between Powell's coach who coaches 10 other athletes out of the 52 there and the athletics body. More to come.

Relevance? Sprinters have failings too?
Relevance? what do you mean?

It is a news item on a T&T ex-athlete that I have put in the Caribbean Olympic Thread. This is the prefectly relevant place for a news item like this.

I dont get your point. It is news and a topical story of interest given the background and current Olympics.

Why is it news though? You don't see the names of every rapist who gets 21 years in jail written in the newspaper - most times when a rape conviction occurs it's merely recorded by the police and the judicial branch. I don't see why this should be different because he took part at the Olympics before, and I certainly don't see what there is to discuss about it - except the inevitable: some athletes, like some humans, are nasty pieces of work.

Never heard of Alvin Henry. How sad for him.

On another note, 3 Jamaicans and 2 Trinidadians in the 100m final mefinks. Liking Caribbean chances.

Unfortunately for Daryl Brown, he was injured and could not participate in the 2nd round heat. Particularly unfortunate because he got injured in Round 1 in Athens. The man is widely regarded as one of the biggest talents in sprinting, but can't stay fit enough to showcase it. Also hurts the 4x100m chances severely for T&T.
