More bored in lockdown threads.

From all the ATG bowlers, these are the ones who just fall short of All rounder status. Made number 8 their own. Alan Davidson I feel was just good enough to count as a true allrounder, he actually batted more in the top 7 than at 8-11 (31 innings to 30)

The other 4 all made the number 8 spot their own

Lindwall got 2 tons but only a few fifties outside of that

Akram got 3 tons, though his big double was against Zimbabwe

Marshall was the best batsman of all the legendary Windies pacemen, didn't reach three figures but passed 50 the most frequently out these 4 candidates

Warne holds the record for most ever test runs without a century. Despite no tons he did pass 85 four times

So who was the best? All can stake a claim imo

My first thought was Wasim due to getting a 257*, but I don't know if that's straightforward.

Not to sound too bias, but Warne played some important knocks.

Top scored quite a few times, including 47 out of 118 in the '97 ashes, his 99 was the top score in a small total of about 350, and he also got a 90 in the '05 ashes which was top score again of a smallish total

I don't know if that's right tbh, but I guess we have to put them in some sort of order. Warne played some absolutely crucial knocks against some good attacks, and weirdly he often did it in tough conditions when the side struggled and no one else was making runs. His 2005 series stands out for absolutely clutch lower order runs.

Then again, all the others in the list had their moments too, Warne probably freshest in my mind though. I have massive Akram bias too - he's probably my fave player outside TOTAB.

Between Wasim and Lindwall. Wasim with the higher ceiling, Lindwall produced the goods just as often though.

Whatever it takes!!!
Have only seen Warne and Akram n this list. Out of those two, Warne over Akram on performances. But Akram over Warne in terms of the eye test and potential.

One of those Akram hundreds was scored against and ATG spinner. His first ton against Australia was not bad either.

Yeah we can probably give it to Akram... I hate to be that guy, but you take out his 257 not out and his average drops from 22.6 to 20.6.

And to justify even thinking of discounting it, Andy Whittall bowled 45 overs in that innings, a man who averaged 105 with the ball in tests..

But as you said he did ton up two more times against good attacks
