Aravinda in '96 was legendary. Counterpunched in the semi against a rampant host at an Eden Gardens about to boil over and then the classic chase in the final against the best team in the world. Don't feel like you can separate the two knocks.

Gilchrist my favourite. Absolutely took apart Sri Lanka's best ever bowling attack.

Gilchrist's was the most brutal. Just ended the game straight away. But still feel like that was a pretty low-profile game and WC in general compared to 2003 & other tears

Not directly on point, but imho the best thing about hte 2019 WC was the predictions of the bat utterly dominating the ball just never came to fruition. Made it such an interesting tourney.

That and such a great final with no one winning it. FMD what a game of cricket that was.

Circumstances conspired to make it a dramatic ending, but I'm not sure the cricket was that great during the day. You don't always want a pitch where both teams top 320, but I think it was just a little bit too hard for the batsman to score quickly even when set.

Smashing 8 sixes in the pre T20 era and that too in a World Cup final is insane, where you would naturally expect a batsman to be cautious.
That kind of innings was expected from Jayasuriya/Afridi. But even they never had the nerves to bat like that in a World Cup final.
