won't stand for this herath slander, he got there fifth fastest out of everyone who got there, and that was from a position where for his early matches he competed with murali for those wickets too!

Daniel Vettori is the worst bowler to pick 300 test wickets. Even Lee had his moments.
Lee was woeful except for a year at each end of his career. The fact he got to play enough tests to take 300 wickets is testament to how good the side around him was for most of his career. Him playing was basically an indulgence Aus could afford even with a four man attack because Warne and McGrath (and to a lesser extent Dizzy) were so good. When he had to step up most, like in England in 05 when McGrath got hurt and Gillespie was past it, he was ****ing trash.

And a Tory boot licker to boot. In the top ten worst people in Australia overall, let alone in the cricket side. Have him between Blair Cottrell and Pauline Hanson on the odious scale.

State Regular
Bowlers,
Garner/Flintoff, 200-300 wickets,
Marshall/I Sharma, 300-400 wickets,
Hadlee/Harbhajan, 400+

Batsman,
Hammond/Wright, 5000-7500 Runs,
Richards/Stewart, 7500-10000 Runs,
Border/Jayawardene, 10000+

I'm biased with AB as he was my hero growing up, 75% of his career was in a **** side. I didn't put other all time favourites of mine in such as Walsh & Laxman, but I was tempted. LOL

Nothing against the players I have put down as worst, ALL of us wouldn't mind their careers.

Heh, Vettori and Lee. One a left arm spinner who stopped turning it in 2004 and couldn't buy a wicket on day 5 since, the other a fast bowler who had everything except a brain.

At least Dan could seriously bat from 2005 onwards. I suppose Lee did figure it out by his mid 30s. I remember in 2008 everyone on here moaning he was the worst best bowler in the world ever. He had a great end to his career.

Those early matches he was pretty crap tbh. Only figured things out once Murali was gone. Doesn't change that it was a big comeback to get there as quick as he did

When opening this thread wasn't expecting some to mention Blair Cottrell!

Largely agree with that analysis, except that Lee did have a very good 05/06 home season and tour of SA as well.

But he was indulged a lot during his career, especially in the 01-03 period where Steve Waugh seemed to want him in at all costs.

I can remember when Ishant's average was 36.5 when he passed 200 test wickets. Has improved it quite a bit with the next 111 though.
