I've just done some research on this story - once again, sqwerty has taken you all for the bunch of boneheads you are.

"The Greater London Authority has offered the ECB use of Trafalgar Square for a victory parade, in the event of England winning The Ashes at The Oval next week."

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
I don't see what the fuss is even if England have booked a celebration. Don't they deserve to? With a little less rain and perhaps a little more Simon Jones, England may have already wrapped up the Ashes. The fact is that England has managed to outplay Australia in 3 of the 4 Tests of the series to date. Now that they've got a chance to win the Ashes after such a long wait, they've got every right to prepare celebrations.

It's not presumption. It's anticipation. As such, I don't see how it can backfire.

At 2-1?.....ummmm what exactly? (other than 3-1)
That in itself would be a big gain.

To be honest, I think England have already gained a lot from the series, regardless of what happens at The Oval and I think Australia themselves would know that this has been England's series. They have outplayed Australia (not dominated, mind you, only outplayed) and if not for the rain, I think everyone knows that the Ashes should already have been with England.

What England have to gain from this match is a series win that would be richly deserved.
yes it would but they don't need this match to take place to achieve that.

I'm rain-dancing as fast as I can but Warney's evil magic is just too strong.

I told everyone that leg-spin was the devil's work and that fat boy was a witch who deserved nothing less than to be burned at the stake but would they believe me?
