Battrick

Jakester1288

International Regular
Just decided to get back into Battrick properly today, notice I'm running second in FC, behind the prick Boothys Bogans who is always coming first and frustrating me, and 5th in OD, which is exactly where I expected to be.

Will draw up some plans for the next few seasons training soon.

Does anyone know how fast a players stamina deteriorates after they pass the age of 33? Does it go down a level once every 6 weeks? Eg:

superb - wk1
strong - wk7
proficient - wk13

Also if you put a stamina net on someone over the age of 33, does that prevent their stamina from deteriorating?

Well, it's been a while since I've properly posted here. But, having had a good look at my squad, I am feeling enthused once more and am now going about restructuring it with a view to hitting Div 1 and being financially sustainable.

Best XI:
1. Christopher Shaw (24yo) exq/sens bat
2. Nigel Whitehouse (22yo) sens/exc bat
3. Ranjeet Bhutia (27yo) mast/mast bat
4. Rory Holdsworth (25yo) exq/mast bat & exq/phon bowl
5. Bob Thabo (20yo) wond/qual bat
6. Jack Allot (21yo) sup/qual bat & exq/qual bowl
7. Farhan Jahanzeb (19yo) qual/resp bat & qual w/k
8. Stuart Houlihan (32yo) comp/comp bat
9. Everett Busby (23yo) exq/sens bowl
10. Richard Appleyard (22yo) sens/exc bowl
11. Rob Mulholland (26yo) mast/exq bowl

My side is decent but probably lacks batting depth. I have Shaw (exq), Whitehouse (sens), Bhutia (mast), Holdsworth (exq), Thabo (wond), Jahanzeb (qual) and Allott (sup) as my only capable batsman. These days, in Div 3, that basically means I have 4 people who can potentially make a score, 3 who can hold down an end on a good day (basically 2 given Jahanzeb is in a permanent state of fatigue) and 4 who are no good. I feel like I've invested too heavily in too few... really, if I'd eased up on Bhutia, Holdsworth and Shaw, at the expense of a level each perhaps, I could be looking at an extra exceptional or two, plus much healthier wages. Alas - I'm now looking to offload Bhutia in the short-term to go after a younger batsman, and ideally by the season's end, Holdsworth will be gone as well. Shaw is 24, Whitehouse 22, Thabo 20, Allott 21 and Jahanzeb 19 so there is a bit of youth there, something I've always valued above nearly all else in BT.

My bowling is arguably my strong point but I've yet to make them really click. Busby should be one of my stars but averages about 80 in OD this season. I haven't bothered to change my orders but it's clear he's no opening bowler. Appleyard is having an excellent season and has been my best bowler, maintaining a S/R of 20. The rest are solid without being outstanding. I am looking to phase out specialist bowlers so they will gradually be replaced with all-rounders over time. Mulholland is 26 so I want to ensure I get a decent price before he gets too old, and, along with Bhutia (those two are my oldest players), has been listed, £6.2m for Mullholland and £6.0m for Bhutia.

With the proceeds of those two sales I'm going to look at getting a decent allrounder, ideally wonderful+ in both primaries, who is in his early 20s, and then a young project batsman, probably around 18-19 because I would like some immediate return. My nets are as follows:

1 x fitness
1 x batting
1 x bowling
1 x fielding

Jack Allott - 21 yo, BT Rating=74,095
RH batsman, RM bowler. He is a destructive player with superb leadership skills and competent experience.
He currently has proficient batting form, strong bowling form and changeable fitness.

Stamina: strong Wicket Keeping: feeble
Batting: superb Concentration: quality
Bowling: exceptional Consistency: quality
Fielding: strong

1 x batting
1 x fielding

Bob Thabo - 20 yo, BT Rating=46,485
RH batsman, RM bowler. He is a destructive player with worthless leadership skills and mediocre experience.
He currently has superb batting form, superb bowling form and changeable fitness.

Stamina: superb Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: wonderful Concentration: quality
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: woeful

1 x fitness
2 x batting
1 x wicket-keeping

Farhan Jahanzeb - 19 yo, BT Rating=29,803
RH batsman, RFM bowler. He is an attacking player with proficient leadership skills and feeble experience.
He currently has abysmal batting form, superb bowling form and changeable fitness.

Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: quality
Batting: quality Concentration: respectable
Bowling: worthless Consistency: feeble
Fielding: worthless

Dependant on what my next few purchases are, I will most likely take Allott's fitness net once he hits superb, Thabo's fielding net once his conc reaches remarkable and Jahanzeb's 2nd batting once he hits remarkable. That will free up 3 nets which I can give to any incoming players.

My season itself is fairly middling. I'm Div 3 in FC & OD and Div 4 in BT20. I have a serious shot at promoting in FC provided everything goes to plan (which it never does) and I find replacements for Mulholland & Bhutia reasonably quickly. Currently coming 3rd, only 1 game off the top two and really I should beat them. OD, I am coming 3rd but no chance of catching first. I'm just aiming to come between 2nd and 4th. BT20 I am coming 2nd after a disappointing loss the other week to an average side, but if I play my cards right should promote back to Div 3.

I'm actually pretty confident in my squad at present but a lot will come down to how the sales of Bhutia & Mulholland go, and particularly who I replace them with. Otherwise I'm happy with the balance and youth I've got. It's just eye opening seeing College Dropouts now in Div 1 when not long ago they were in a similar position. Bring on the transfers I say...

Keen for next season, finding myself losing interest in Battrick frequently lately, spiking for a day, then fading off for another few weeks.

Hi Rob. Good to hear from you, buddy. This is a good move. Two things to considering IMO -

I've come to the belief that Exquisite is the most efficient level in terms of skill with wages if you look at it from cost vs. benefits point of view. Depending on secondaries, It usually levels out at about 50,000. Its what I'm working several players towards atm. When you've got your squad set, that's the time to perhaps add a masterful+ to the mix.

Secondly, your keeper trainee; I wouldn't train him any higher than quality. I've got a keeper trainee, Sammy Pearson, and he should reach quality keeping next week. From there, I'll train his fielding to keep his conc ticking over. Remember keeping counts as a primary skill, not a secondary like fielding. I discussed this with a few people this season. And the conclusion we came to is that there is not much difference between an exceptional keeper, or a proficient. Decepticons, who won the cup in the previous two seasons, and the OD I.1 in season 13, used a proficient keeper with respectable fielding. Which proves to an extent, that your keeper will not make or break your team's dreams. For the sake of a few byes you're going to save 10-25k+ a week on wages.

I feel similarly but with a level or two difference. I feel like sensational is the ideal base level as it works out to be around £30k, which is really quite affordable. That extra £15k is another 50% of a sensational and probably not worth it IMO. I think you'd be better served by having 3 sensationals than 2 exquisites, if only for the sake of rotations and PFL. But I agree, once you get enough around that area it's time to upgrade. For example, I currently only have 4 exquisite primaries, Shaw, Busby and Holdsworth x 2, and no higher. I will never bother training anyone to a level below exceptional though. The WK I am happy to get to wonderful as it's only ever about 12k, which is really nothing IMO if I can slightly increase wk dismissals.

My squad reshaping went very smoothly though, and I'm over the moon about my future prospects now. £6.3m for Bhutia and £6.7 for Mulholland - probably less than I'd hoped - but nonetheless still a good amount in the present climate, given they're both getting on in age. In their place...

Tyler Hulse - 20 yo, BT Rating=74,748 £6.4m

Ultimately I've brought in two quality 20yos who are well on their way to being stars - the stamina is particularly pleasing, plus I have maintained my balance at £2m, and my wages have been reduced by 120k per week which will be a godsend. I now have 5 trainees - 5 batting nets, 2 bowling, 2 fitness, 1 wk. Allott 21yo, Hulse, Peel, Thabo 20yo and Jahanzeb 19yo. That gives me a lot of youth and shores up my squad for many years without having to worry about depreciation of player values. With those nets, I feel like my batting is going to improve very quickly and evenly and I now can bat down to 9 (only to 8, as the next best bat I've got is a comp/comp at #9). Exciting times ahead. The start of next season will see a far more competitive and even Anchormen starting XI, especially since all my trainees will have superb stamina and therefore have much improved performance. I'll post an XI soon.

Notice that Battrick is announcing some new features/improvements. This can only be a good thing considering how stagnant the game has become for many users. You only have to compare this thread to say a year ago, hardly any interest in Battrick anymore.

Liking these changes, aggression, having a wrist spinner then they come out random etc.

Do you guys reckon changing Fillery to a wrist spinner is worth it? He's by far my best bowler, seeing as I just sold my strong as he was getting on a bit, my best bowler after this is is a strong/prof 18 (turning 19) year old.

Things are heating up in my FC with one game left. Last week I played the side who were coming first and beat them by 10 wickets, only for the 2nd-placed side to win and take their spot. So now I'm in 2nd place, 11 points off. Thankfully for me I play the side that is actually coming first so it all comes down to that game... if I win, I promote, to make a largely so-so season fruitful. If he wins, he promotes. I've pulled back my players workload to get their fitness right, lost an easy-ish game yesterday because I was resting my 3 all rounders.

Tense times ahead, he has an NT bowler, so that'll be interesting. Would love to win, I haven't been in Div 2 for a while and it'll give me a reason to pay attention next season. I do find it funny though, that I've now gotten back into BT when there's so little activity on this board. Oh well.

Here's my new-look lineup by the way. Fairly young. Should be good with another pop or two in some key primaries...
