Batting Blockathon - Mission Impossible

What did they specifically say?

I'm not sure what an offside weakness to Murali means if he isn't getting out to it.
he didn't seem to think Sachin was comfortable against it

"I felt in my career, Sachin had a small weakness against off-spin. With leg-spin, he smashes but off-spin somehow he had the difficulty because I got him out so many times. And lots of off-spinners also got him so many times, I have seen it,"

"I don't know, I never spoke to him regarding this, that why 'you aren't comfortable with off-spin.' I felt in my mind he had a little bit of weakness that's why I got a little bit of advantage compared to other players. Sachin is a difficult player, it's very hard to get him out."

Cronje, I think Donald said the tactic Cronje deployed with Sachin was pitching the ball a bit off of the offstump and then cutting it in and that admittedly was difficult.

Nah you completely misread Murali (no pun intended).

I saw them and it wasn't that Sachin was weak against Murali, it was that he simply found him awkward to attack like Lara did Kumble.

Because Murali spinned it so much in, he didn't like playing against the spin and because of his variations he could often miscue across the line with his strokes. Hence most of his dismissals are him playing attacking strokes and failing. He got stuck in his crease. If he needed to block he could (as could Lara when he saved a game against Kumble in 2005).

So his natural game does have issues with Murali?

Yes found him harder to dominate compared to Warne. But as I explained with Lara and Kumble, it's not a weakness in the sense we use it. Murali himself said it's hard to get Tendulkar out.

I guess if they are just blocking and not playing their natural game or even attempting to score a run then I'm not backing the spinners to break through the defenses of anyone here except maybe Waugh and Border.

Tendulkar did have a problem attacking against the doosra that cost him his wicket throughout his career from Saqlain to Murali to Ajmal. But blocking I would back him.

why call it a maranthon if there's no running/making runs involved? just call it a block-a-thon
