Are you saying Greenidge was never seen as a better bat?that's a stupid statement, Gower was seen as the best batsman in the world by Australians in 1980s, that's higher peer rep than Greenidge.

I reckon it's debateable between them in peer rep and Gower is no equal of BoycottAre you saying Greenidge was never seen as a better bat?
Did Gower have better peer rep than Boycott?I reckon it's debateable between them in peer rep and Gower is no equal of Boycott
Not today, back then maybe, Boycott was a controversial figure and you'd find Pre-Botham English Cricketers weren't that loved even in their own country.Did Gower have better peer rep than Boycott?
Gower seems like a red herring then. Not today, back then maybe, Boycott was a controversial figure and you'd find Pre-Botham English Cricketers weren't that loved even in their own country.
alright, let's put peer rep inside a bit, do you agree statistically and career wise Boycott wins clearly, remember peer rep is off the table.Gower seems like a red herring then.
Sure Boycott may have slightly better overall stats but think Greenidge had an edge for playing assertively in a good bowling era, especially in places like England and NZ.alright, let's put peer rep inside a bit, do you agree statistically and career wise Boycott wins clearly, remember peer rep is off the table.
Doesn't Greenidge have those very advantages over Gavaskar? and you don't have Gavaskar below GreenidgeSure Boycott may have slightly better overall stats but think Greenidge had an edge for playing assertively in a good bowling era, especially in places like England and NZ.
mostly true.Boycott was hated.
Gower was loved.
Is this true?
Boycott is even slower than Gavaskar who had an extra gear at least when he was settled on the crease. Boycott has an SR in the early 30s, Gavaskar early 40s. That ridiculously slow for Boycott and takes away from the impact of his runs even when we consider he is better surviving new ball spells.Doesn't Greenidge have those very advantages over Gavaskar? and you don't have Gavaskar below Greenidge
It's mid 30s, and no, the impact doesn't lessen, the ball swung and seam substantially more in England than anywhere else in the world so the early defensive phase would naturally be larger in England than elsewhere. Infact, The English way is very much to whether the storm before playing the old ball normally, never lessened the impact of runs by the bats. 100 (285) doesn't have less impact than 100(200), Complaining about the strikerate of an opener is a bit much.Boycott is even slower than Gavaskar who had an extra gear at least when he was settled on the crease. When the going gets hard, there isn't much difference between the two. But when there were runs to be made, Gavaskar was one of the best ever to plunder, not that Boycott wasn't prolific in his own right on slower wickets but Sunny could dominate on them almost on the same level as Sachin without the aerial shots and therefore he has the clear edge.
Yeah that's why I have Gavaskar higher, as you can see I say there's not much difference between them, you better believe there's quite a huge difference between Gavaskar and Greenidge. You yourself talked about how Gavaskar could up the ante when needed more effectively than Boycott. Boycott by all indications in most innings did not up the ante and that is a sore point. If he is taking over a day on average to score a ton even after being settled sorry that will be demerited.
Well I rate Gavaskar over Greenidge too.Yeah that's why I have Gavaskar higher, as you can see I say there's not much difference between them, you better believe there's quite a huge difference between Gavaskar and Greenidge.
by how muchWell I rate Gavaskar over Greenidge too.
Eh, IIRC that case is a very much he-said-she-said, shouldn't be factored in player comparison threadsRichards as boycott loses atleast 100 points for being a women abuser.
Court found him guilty. That's enough for me.Eh, IIRC that case is a very much he-said-she-said, shouldn't be factored in player comparison threads
