A compromise has already been reached on the number of national contracts allocated each year, which will be cut from 25 to between 17 and 20, with each state allowed two additional contracts.

Players bid for World Cup cash

Horrah.

Does that mean funding would be released for states for 2 extra players, because the states really at this stage can only afford 14 players.
BTW expect Ed Cowan to be given the cut from the contracts this year, question is does Liam Davis get one.
With the memorandum unsigned yet cricket contracts can't be signed, thus delaying states ability to sign players.

You're expecting the incumbent test opener to not be given a contract? Never

All Katich-related jokes aside, Cowan should still end up with one. Davis, on the other hand, getting a CA contract will never happen. The man should never go near a baggy green.

The states will undoubtedly be able to afford the full amount of players.

The guy had a good year, but if you were going to pull out a middle aged batsman from nowhere, surely Bobby Q would be ahead of him?

if cowan loses his test spot we all know they'll move watson up, so i'm thinking he meant to write bailey or forrest

Well Cowan has 1 50 in 6 tests.
Performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Yeh maybe wrong on Davis, maybe Bailey, on Forrest he is the reserve batsmen, expect he already has a contract on performance, averaged 40 in oz,reserve test batsmen.Likely to play 3rd test instead of Cowan.
Well if they are adding 2 contracts that would make the states contracts 16,New South Wales will love this.

Highly doubt Cowan will be dropped this quickly.

Where were you getting the figure of 14 contracts from in the first place? Seems ridiculously low.

New South Wales had 14 contracts last year,Tasmania seem to be trending that way.(ie pay the bigger cash to keep the fewer stars, rather than having 18 contracts and paying your premium players less.)I think chris rogers made 50 thou last year.
With maybe 18 contracts for tests and one dayers(not t20) i don't see Cowan cutting it.
Maybe he will retain his place in the test squad, but that doesn't mean he will get a contract. They will probably send Cowan on the Aussie A tour of England.

With 2013 coming up you'd send Patto,no use risking him for the one dayers if he not quite right.
Don't think Siddle will be playing for Essex this year.
Just looked at the itinneries coming up,if Cummins goes to England for the A tour he will miss the lead up games for the world youth cup,its probable England and OZ will go through to the quater finals,so its worth the risk of taking him on the A tour.
Itinneries found on cricket archive, one dayers England,A tour England, and world youth cup.
Thing tho think we are playing Pakistan in august which could rule Cummins out of the world youth cup.
Lets hope we let him play in the cup, will give us a chance to go back to back world cup victories.

As in the warm-ups or the group stages of the tournament-proper? Not sure how the ICC would feel about it TBH, although hopefully they wouldn't have a problem as he's playing higher-level cricket.

Siddle did sign a deal with Essex for the T20s, right? If so, he'll play for them unless he's still injured. And its Siddle, with his heart he won't stay injured for long.

If Haddin still isn't back and Paine's not quite right, Nev for the A-Team 'keeper?

He would miss the group stages.
But avaialable for the quarter finals.

Tim Paine was fit around late march, early april, and with being chosen for the academy, would say its set in stone.
The Nev call up seems a 1 off, like for example Phil Emery called up for Pakistan.
My question is John Hastings fit, heard he was meant to be playing with the academy, but his name not there.

Another thing is the academy usually plays the emerging series in August, thats when we are in England,2/3 of the academy squad likely to be the A side.
Maybe just maybe they will have to do it in late jone, early july, even then its a tight fix between the Aussie A tour to England.
Thats unless they have cut the emerging tournament,no word on it so far,may have to ring CA tomorrow.

Surely he'd play one or the other then - I doubt the ICC would let him come in just for the Quarters onwards. Unless a fringe member suspiciously goes down with an injury in the last group game..

Paine may only bat while coming back into it though - but at the same time he may go right back in to 'keeping. Depends how he thinks his finger will hold up.
Hopefully Nev is not Emery, and ends up getting an extended run in the Test side. Wade hasn't been too flash thus far, and Paine's constantly injured, so...
