Earlier this month Australia Post released a set of 6 stamps recognising "Living Legends". This is an annual happening with past issues recognising a diverse range of people in various fields. We have had chefs, fashion designers, TV personalities, tennis players ... the list goes on.
This year the "Living Legends" are cricketers and the chose players (and past players) honoured are:
Adam Gilchrist, Ellyse Perry, Allan Border, Dennis Lillee, Ricky Ponting and Jason Gillespie.
Knowing that cricket was to be the theme, I tried to predict who would be named. I had most of the eventual names on my short list but was surprised to see Gillespie acknowledged ahead of Glenn McGrath. I might add, I predicted Shane Warne but was happy to be wrong.
In the past, I have disagreed with some choices - no more so when they named twelve legendary tennis players but had overlooked Lew Hoad. It was later that I realised they were focusing on "Living" legends and sadly Lew had passed away last century before he reached 60.
