Another Round of Team Trades

Pollock over Murali in SL makes no sense.
In SL no. But on away pitches he is as good as or even better than Murali. And he allows five bowlers to be played, and Herath and Dilruwan can do a job better than decent on home pitches. It finally comes to balance.

Yeah I think Murali was better away than Pollock too.

I think except Bradman, no one is replacing Murali in SL for me. And Bradman even isn't a given, I would actually consider not to take him. Imran, Hadlee, Sobers and Marshall give Murali a good run, but still won't replace him
Issue is for SL it is fast bowling. We always had excellent spinners who were match winners at home. Any other pace based team at any point in history would take Murali in a heart, beat, exception of India and Aus of Warne's era. It is not how good player is, but how much that player worth for the team.

For example, Bradman' invincibles or 80s Wi would drop any of their bowlers for Murali in a heart beat, but 2010s India would not drop Bumrah for him. The only players they may drop is Ashwin or Jadeja. It finally comes down to relative worth.

None of your spinners except Herath can hold a candle to Murali even at Home. And 2000s Herath isn't just cutting it, had he he would have had partnered Murali himself.

lol

Surprised to see Migara so insanely incorrect about his own team.

Herath bowling well in the 00’s? Give me a ****ing break.
Herath didn't bowl much in 00s, because SL rarely needed a second spinner even at home. Jayasuriya was there to fill in. But he was good. He just needed to bowl.

Without Murali and with Imrans encouragement he blooms earlier.
In his debut series he has Aussie team groping around, and gave Ponting a torrid time. He had that carom ball too.

Murali was once in few generations spinner. But it doesn't mean SL reserve spinners were ordinary. Most of them would walk in to most of the teams around.

Bullshit. He played 19 games and averaged over 40 overs per game. Averaged over 30 at home and over 45 away. He was crap. He could make it into Bangladesh and first half SA and Eng. Wouldn’t even make the Zimbabwe side.

For comparison, Murali in first 21 matches averages 29.6. Home 27.8, away 31.9.
Herath Home 31.3, away 45.9

There is absolutely nothing much between the two. The evidence is supportive that if Herath bowled in 00s, with no Murali around, he' likely to end up with 600 wickets with pretty good home average.
