I'll kick it off by saying that already the pacer selection is going to be very interesting for the first 2 pacers between Marshall, McGrath and Hadlee. There's a good chance that this ends up as the 3 eventually in the first XI, but interesting to see who people go for first.

Definitely feel almost everyone agrees at Hadlee>McGrath as a cricketer, so feel he really should be there.

I agree with that as well, but it depends on role really. He's better because of his batting, but if you're getting enough batting from others, I'd just want the best 3 pacers

I feel the difference in their bowling is miniscule, so really will take him even to bat at 11. I mean, 30 extra runs a match from 9 is still extra 30 runs, and then there's the support factor.

I have both in my ideal XI so it isn't an issue for me... But let's see how others vote

Attributes matter as well. It's almost essential to have a tall pacer in an attack, so given that Marshall is a certainty and is not tall. 2nd pacer should ideally be McGrath, taller and slightly better. Obviously as cricketers, Hadlee is ahead but I'd take an attack that covers more bases.

Yeah this, and the fact as well that McGrath imo is the greatest new ball bowler of all time, particularly against the top order, also is a point.

I mentioned this in a post yesterday.
Attributes and complimentary style. The West Indies were at their best when they had Marshall opening with Garner. Marshall's pace and skiddy bounce and Garners steepling bounce.
And most importantly, and this is the part that bothers me a little tbh.
This is literally for who will be opening the attack, your opening bowlers and the most important role on the team, even if you factor in batting later and shuffle in Hadlee in that spot.
Marshall is the greatest bowler to have played the game, McGrath though has the better argument to be the best with the new ball. Along with being the best at targeting the best batsman on the opposition. That plus the complimentary styles. That plus having experience of coming through in big moments in big games, playing in tougher conditions, and leading great attacks...
Marshall and McGrath.
Even if McGrath takes the opening spot, previous voting has indicated that Hadlee is still going to get the 3rd pacer role.

You mean that if there's on spot that you make not based on batting it's that one. You're literally opening the bowling.

What about fielding then? And I don't really rate McGrath a tier/sub-tier ahead of Hadlee as a bowler. Think they are pretty equal, and every bit helps one to get ahead.

Say we invent a game with a stick and a round, bouncy stone. The objective of the game is to throw a stone at someone who has a stick. The player with the stick ("hitter") tries to hit the stone as long as they can, and this is good for their team. First off, let's take this seriously, people look at these votes.
Secondly if you're building the best possible attack, it has to start with the two best bowlers. Bowlers that compliment each other. They're literally getting the new ball. Pace, swing, aggression, your enforcer, and accuracy, seam, bounce, consistency, no combination tests your will and technique more.
How does McGrath and Marshall not do that
